About Gibar - Gianluca Barragato

I am a freelance composer with a Master Degree in Classical music from the Conservatory of Genova, Italy. I studied instrumentation, orchestration and composition.
Music composition occupies most of my artistic energies: I public my works, I create music for theatre, I participate in international composing competitions, receiving many awards, mentions and prizes.

Music is Freedom. I write music only for Passion, it is an inner need of my soul.
I studied composition on my own, in a free way, feeding my eclecticism with life experiences, and the personal study of Masters scores, because I was afraid of being influenced by school systems and insensitive teachers. My favourite composers are my masters. I am proudly a musician without labels.
My canone is instinct. I have no principles or writing systems. I remain faithful to the reality I perceive, expressing what I feel, what I like, what I choose.
My aim is a free, original, emotionally touching music, able to tune up with the listeners in the soul, in thought and in the experience of life, in an empathic magic.

Music by Gianluca Barragato

Piano: Valentina Messa

The piece is in the form of piano "Toccata", structurally divided into two equal parts in length.

The inspiration for the creation of this piece comes from the free dance in the streets of Sao Paulo do Brazil, I saw during the Carnival. The piece is not descriptive, from the dance it gets the artistic idea, translated into musical elements.
It flows and changes continuously. Opposite elements appear to be inferred one from one another, in a continuous, never repetitive flow, like dancers movements.

A tribute to dance, to dynamism, and therefore a tribute to life, expressed by intense rhythm, melodic, and timbrical contrasts.

Here is some information about the piece:

The inspiration for the creation of this piece comes from the free dance in the streets of Sao Paulo do Brazil, I saw during the Carnival. The piece is not descriptive, from the dance it gets the artistic idea, translated into musical elements.
The flows and change continuously. Opposite elements appear to be inferred one from one another, in a continuous, never repetitive flow, like dancer movements. A tribute to dance, to dynamism, and therefore a tribute to life, expressed by intense rhythm, melodic, and timbrical contrasts.
The piece is in the form of piano "Toccata", structurally divided into two equal parts in length.
The strong dynamic and rhythmic aspect, emerges immediately, at the beginning.
Then gradually, melodic elements bring to a sort of cantabile part (from 0:43 to up to 1.20).
From 1:24 to 2:15 there is a more introspective moment, which insists on the lower timbre of the piano. Gradually, rhythmical dynamism and dynamic strength return to the foreground.
In 2:52 there is a kind of delicate parenthesis, which instead insists on the highest registry of the instrument.
From 4:18 starts the second part. It is characterized by greater freedom but is joined to the first one by harmonic, rhythmic and melodic elements. Great variety again: opposed elements, derive one from one another, in a continuous flow, as a logical consequence.
The beginning of the second part is lively and cheerful, then it brings to a lyrical, sentimental moment (5:36). Finally, the quick and intense movement, the unbridled dance predominate, in a crescendo of energy, to a sudden exhaustion.

All the best to you!

The piece deals with madness, often the subject of music. As an example, think about the famous theme of “follia”, used, arranged and varied by many composers.
This piece is inspired by madness, highlighting some aspects, not least the creative one: there is no art without madness.
The piece is built in a tripartite form: A-B-A '.
In the first section, A, it initially bases on the obstinate C-G-D-Ab. In fact, obstinacy is often a characteristic of madness.
This section presents playful and childish characters, fragmented by more intense and contrasting moments (for example in bars 7-8 and 14), that will be developed in the following part of the piece.
The rhythmic and harmonic elements presented will then explode in the central section, B.
In this section, violent and almost angry, but also vital aspects emerge. The initial obstinate, which acts as a unifying element, appear again, for example, in the right hand, although rhythmically much quicker.
Part A' incorporates some elements of A', however, but in a different setting, as if the second section caused somehow a transformation. The airy and playful elements of section A, in fact, completely leaves the place to a more hypnotic and hallucinated, almost hopeless scenario. Madness.

Piano: Valentina Messa

The piece is included in "Travel Notes" album:

Zefiri – Flute and Clarinet in Bb
Recording: Alessio Alberghini (flute) and Alessandro Restivo (Clarinet in Bb)

Zefiro is the west wind of spring. I wrote the piece during Spring. In my view, the two instruments, musical winds, bring a positive message.
The piece is in 3 Movements. The germinating idea is in the final section of the third movement, then I developed the music backward, working on the rhythmic cells of the original idea.
It mainly focuses on rhythm, but containing many melodic moments as well. I love the sound of both the instruments and I tried to create some beauty balancing the dialog between the two.
