About The Antique Harmoniums

The Antique Harmoniums is the creation of Jon Charles Fortman; our albums are also produced, arranged, orchestrated, and scored by him. They are also recorded in professional studios using top-grade equipment or in our own home recording studio which is also outfitted with pro-grade equipment. Our debut album has been described by fans as a "Rock Symphony." The group was conceived in 2003 following the initial version of their recording of "Gifts and Testaments of Robin Hood Road." The final version of that project was completed in 2009 and formally released on Nov 21 of that year. A given Antique Harmoniums CD will cover a wide spectrum of music genres including (but not limited to), choral, pop/rock, country, classical(orchestral), atonal, hard rock, new age. "Gifts and Testaments of Robin Hood Road" was captured in five different facilities:

Audio Arts (Eye Ear Dallas), Arlington TX
Balance Studios, Mandeville LA
Dallas Sound Lab, Irving TX
Panhandle House Studios, Denton TX
Pineapple Studios, Arlington TX

Mixdown was performed at

Balance Studios, Mandeville LA by Dave Fortman
Panhandle House Studios, Denton TX by Erik Herbst

Mastering was performed at Precision Mastering, Hollywood CA by Tom Baker

Art Direction and package design was performed primarily by Malcolm Tarlofsky with consultation from Jon Charles Fortman

Belle Journee - Post Pandemic

Greetings Harmoniums,

It was another triumphant session at Panhandle House Studios (that's the ONLY kind they have there!). The staff, owners, and facility are second to none in their attention to technical and artistic detail, education, courtesy, and professionalism. It's a tad bit expensive this hobby: writing/producing/arr./scoring/recording my own original works, but it is my passion. The monstrosity, “Belle Journee”, I once publicly remarked, is "Wagnerian" in size. True or not, it does have about everything you could think might belong in a 9-minute orchestral/choral work (and some things you might think do NOT belong there ;^). This weekend's session had a special feel as, like many of you a mere two+ years ago, I wondered if sessions [and things] like this would be possible in any sort of near-term timeframe. So many critical folks have been attached to recording sessions for this behemoth dating half a decade ago. They've heard me attempt to declare the piece finished so many times I think they quit listening; who could blame them? This time next year I will take it to final mix and mastering in its 40th year since conception.

"Maids"/"The Nursery"

Such a seemingly simple task [for a veteran/seasoned composer/orchestrator]…the section had become clown carish sounding. Reduce the instrumentation [less is more in this case] and add some rudimentary choral lines with lyrics to convey a simple message. Ha! I know nothing. That was January. Deeply grateful for the work of Holly Parish from the London Symphony Chorus via airgigs; yep it’s a thing [If it wasn’t already]. Absolutely perfect for this application. And of course to Leslie Hochman Aiuvalasit; such a great joy to get to work with you again! On tenor, a composer cameo! The section is “Maids“/“The Nursery“ from one of my orchestral/choral behemoths, “Belle Journee“. - Jon Charles Fortman

"Congratulations! You've Been Selected"

Greetings and Happy New Year Harmoniums!

We apparently have been honored, so it seems, by N1M with a 21-day feature of some sort. We just received this today from N1M:

"Congratulations The Antique Harmoniums! You've been selected for free promotion in the Best New Artist category on N1M. During the period of 21 days, your profile and music will be featured on the most visited pages at N1M. Get ready to boost impressions!"

Not exactly sure how that came about but we do feel sure that you great folks were directly correlated. So thank you so much for your continued interest and support of our craft.

Enjoy your journey for this coming year,
