About Devin Christy
Devin Christy is one of the most prolific
artists to come along in decades. Her sound
is reminiscent of R&B artists from the past
with a new and fresh point of view. Her
songwriting and production style is unique
and unlike no other.
Devin’s love for music began at an early
age. Growing up in Baltimore, she credits
her father for inspiring her passion. Her
father, Lewis Hamlin Jr. was musical
director for James Brown during the 1960’s.
He was an impeccable musician and always
exposed Devin to a variety of musical
instruments. As a result, Devin learned to
play the Violin, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and
taught her self to play the Piano, Lead and
Bass Guitar, and Drums. Her greatest pride
and joy though, is her horn. Just like her
father, Devin considers the Trumpet her
primary instrument.
Devin attended Western High School in
Baltimore where she was a member of the
marching band and wrote the school’s
official “Senior Farewell” song when she was
just 16. During the same year, her first song,
“You Should Know” was recorded and
published by PMP Records.
After Graduation, she moved to Atlanta to
attend Spelman College and became a
member of their All-Female Jazz band.
During her time spent in Atlanta, Devin co-
produced tracks for artists such as Erick
Sermon of link as a member of Ghetto
Lab Productions and worked with Maurice
Starr, founder of the R&B group New
Edition. She also landed a deal with Guess
Shot Management, once owned by William
Guess of “The Pips”.
Since moving to New York, she has
performed at numerous venues around the
city, written songs and produced tracks for
many up and coming artists around town
and was also Musical Director for the Senior
Education Department of Boys and Girls
Harbor. Devin is now putting the final
touches on her forthcoming, self-produced
CD, “Untouchable.”
Devin Christy combines soulful and
thoughtful lyrics with precise and creative
production to develop a sound that is
beyond compare. As one listens to her
songs, her deep rich tenor and exciting
falsetto invokes a fondness for the classic
melodies of yesteryear while remaining true
to today’s urban scene.
