About Shigeki Kawahara

...by DJ Aki, JAPAN INDIES:
"Japanese Smooth Jazz artist Shigeki Kawahara you could say is an internet success story that continues to be told. A very accomplished keyboardist/pianist, he began recording music in 1995 and released his first CD (and to date only full album) “Another World” in 2005. He had been doing music on the side while his day job as an economist takes him around the world. The convenience of the internet, however, allowed him to release his music via the world wide web, catching the attention of FM DJs abroad. The album was an online success leading Kawahara-san to form the jazz trio TIG (Three In the Groove) with Toru Ishiwata (guitar) and Hiroki Ide (drums). Previews of their music can be heard online on his "Shigeki Kawahara/ TIG and Friends" Facebook page. Kawahara’s and TIG’s music is reminiscent of smooth jazz legends like Joe Sample, Bob James, and FourPlay."

Comment by Peter Boehi, DJ of SmoothVibes Radio:
"I added your track "Night Flight" to our playlist because it fits very well and I like the vintage touch of the song."

A few days ago, I found the rainbow stretching down from the thunderhead cloud. Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue...Ok, keep our heads up. Stay safe and keep the music playing.

Greetings from Japan.
Hope this message finds you well.
All of us face a very difficult time, especially for those providing venues for live performances. Many well-known old jazz clubs had come to close the doors. However, there are some new ways to deliver live music such as remote broadcasting via the internet. It is not really the same as the old ways. For the time being, we should start trying some new ways.
Stay safe and keep the music playing.

Greetings from Japan,
A tune "Jam of Q" is up. An arrangement is kept minimum to leave spaces among the notes. This is to create a light feel of a jam session. Please give it a try and hope you like it.

"Ballad of Your Smile" is an easy listening piece that I composed with an appreciation of my family always embracing me with her gentle smile. No complicated arrangement. Just piano and organ with some calm fillers to finish the total sound in good spherical shape. Hope you like this small and peaceful tune.
All the best, Shigeki
