Hey, all!
It's been a while since my last update and I wanted to do something a little different. Up to now, I've been adding songs from my Dark Matter album released in 2011. I wanted to give you all a taste of some of the things I've been working on recently. So I've added a couple of rough demos (recorded at home on Garageband - so please excuse the lack of studio wizardry on these recordings) of songs that I've been working on that would be more in the Christian/Inspirational genre than my previous work. I have recently been feeling an internal push to start exploring my musical relationship with my spiritual experience and have been taking some baby steps in that direction. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new songs!
The first is Morning Sun, inspired by Lamentations 3:22-23 - The Steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The idea that we have an opportunity to try again if we mess up. Something I am forever thankful for...
The second is So Beautiful (Someone Told Me); this one was inspired by my own experience being encouraged to check out church for the first time in a very long time.
I hope you enjoy them; they're quite a bit different in tone than the work from Dark Matter.
Cheers!

Hey, team!
So, I've uploaded the last two songs from the Dark Matter record - the title track, "Dark Matter," and "Hydra."
A little history about Hydra: while I am not a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I would consider myself an ally; I have very dear friends who are a part of the community. I had heard the phrase "It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" a few too many times and decided to turn it on its ear. I thought, what if it was Adam and Yves instead? The hydra reference comes from microscopic aquatic plant that reproduces by budding and making an identical replica of itself. This made me think of the creation of Adam and Eve where God took one of Adam's ribs to make Eve. In the case of the Hydra, that would make another Adam.
So this is my "Anti-hate" protest song. It won't be for everyone but I hope you enjoy it.

Hey, all!
Thought I'd switch things up a bit. Added two new songs from the record this morning: "Sycophant" and "bounty," which, as it turns out, are tracks 3 and 4 respectively. Sycophant speaks to that "holier than thou art" ideal; it highlights Matthew 15:18 from the bible in which Jesus says, "They honour me with their lips but their heart is far from me." In the writing of this song, I wanted to highlight the difference between a Christian and a Christ Follower. Sadly, they are not the same thing.
bounty is a song about a state of mind where you have a secret that you are sure everyone knows already but you are desperate to keep; its as though you wear it on your skin for everyone to see but try to go on as if it is not obvious. The irony is that no one actually notices because, guess what, not everything is about you. :)
I hope you enjoy and would love to hear your thoughts. Both songs are available for download and can be purchased along with the rest of the Dark Matter record on iTunes.
Thanks for listening!

Hey, all!
It's been a little while so I thought I'd change up the songs again. This week I've added two of the more "ballad-like" songs from the record: "The Advocate" and "pieces of U." Fun fact about "pieces...:" hidden in the mix is a blend of whale song that includes Orca and Humpback (there may also be some blue whale in there too, I can't quite remember). I felt like this song was a bit cosmic in scope with two timeless beings caught up in a cycle of love, loss and rebirth and the unearthly quality of whale song seemed to fit really well. The song was inspired by the film "The Fountain," starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. For any of you who have not seen it, I highly recommend.
Oh yeah. And you can download these new songs too. Happy February!

Hi, all!
So, I've added a new song today. I felt that Kiss of the Dragon had had a long enough tenure for the moment and thanks to all who listened to it and enjoyed it. It is one of my favourites from the record. The new song, "fallout flower," is all about when you've hit absolute rock bottom - either in a relationship or in your everyday life - and everything seems to be complete chaos around you and there's that one person, a flower amidst the destruction, that reaches out and reminds you that life is still worth living. Some of the sounds you'll hear (maybe without realizing it) are a metal dishwasher turn table, a submarine SONAR ping, and a recording of an atomic explosion. Enjoy! And feel free to share your thoughts; I love to hear them!

I hope you're enjoying the songs! Tómas Alexander: Dark Matter was an experiment in electronic pop made with manipulation of found sounds. It was a blast to create and a big learning curve for me as an artist. A fun fact about the song "compass" is that it was made entirely of multiple tracks of only my voice. If you like these songs, please check out the full record on iTunes.
