About Peter Mackie (Lampstand)

I have been writing and recording songs as part of my personal worship for a number of years and have been challenged to get out of my comfort zone and share a few. My prayer as you listen is that you will be encouraged to use the gifts God has given you for his Kingdom.

Peter Mackie (Lampstand) has no Merchandise yet.

Hello Saints,

Pentecost is an amazing time for Christians as we remember and celebrate the gift of the coming of the Holy Spirit into the lives of Jesus disciples. A gift that is still given to all those who believe and trust in Him today.

I was reflecting on the story of Moses and the burning bush and how the bush was not consumed by the flame and realised that the same thing happens to us when the Holy Spirit enters our lives. We are surrounded by the presence of God but we are not consumed or destroyed, rather we are empowered and blessed.

When recording 'On fire' I ended up with 2 versions of the vocal melody line and couldn't decide which one I preferred so I decided to leave them both in.

I hope you have a great Pentecost and always remain 'on fire' for Jesus. Stay safe.

Cheers Peter

Hello Saints,

Easter is almost upon us and we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and his gift of an amazing eternal life for those who believe in him.

I was reflecting on the number of times in scripture where 'hills' are mentioned and the importance they play in the Bible stories in both the Old and New Testaments.

What particularly caught my eye was Jesus affirmation on a hill, his death on a hill, his ascension on a hill and the fact that the Bible tells us he will return on a hill.

These thoughts all lead to me writing the song, 'On a hill', a number of years ago. It has been through several arrangements over the years until I eventually settled on the simple stripped back version I have uploaded.

I hope like it and have a great Easter.

Stay safe. God bless.

Cheers Peter

Hello Saints,

I have been asked a number of times over the last few months when I will be able to do 'live' events.

The answer to this is that we just don't know. Even with the vaccine rollout in full motion here in the UK, it will be many months before we will know for sure when we will be able to travel safely to other parts of the world.

So, to get round this problem we decided to do a one off event on the 24th February in my church in Middleton Cheney and record it. I am pleased to say that the 42 minute video - 'Easter Laid Bare' (ELB) which is a reflection on the wonderful Easter story is now available on Youtube. Please follow the link.

ELB is a reflection of the Easter story through 6 songs, one of which 'The Marks' has already been uploaded to N1M.

Stay safe

Hello All,

Lent is not too far away and is a time of reflection as we prepare for Easter and celebrate Jesus rising from the dead.

'Loosed the chains' is a song that reflects on the fact that Jesus waits patiently for people to open themselves up to him and that when they do, he steps into their world and shares in their daily journey with all of its ups and downs, celebrations and difficulties.

It is a song of thanksgiving and recognises that sinners as we are, Jesus gave his life for us, looked out for us, and continues to look out for us, everyday.

Knowing that we have an amazing future because of Easter, I hope this coming Lent, is a time of release and refreshment for us all as we face the continuing struggle against the pandemic.

Stay safe

Cheers Peter

Hello All,

Something a little different from me this time. An instrumental music video to hopefully brighten up your winter days and evenings.

Two years ago, I went for a short holiday on the island of Corfu in the Aegean Sea just off the coast of mainland Greece. On one of our walks, following a sign for the, ‘Secret Beach’, we noticed a flock of birds perched on telegraph lines and I asked one of my companions to take a photograph of the birds as I was sure the positions they were perched on the wires could be translated into a melody line of music. (I am sure this was God having some fun with us!!)

Inspired by the photograph, John Bowman and I set about creating the instrumental music that became the ‘Secret Beach’. Just for a bit of fun……the whole tune is a kind of palindrome, in that we add instruments to the melody line, the middle eight section of the melody is played in reverse and then the instruments are removed from the tune in the order they were added.

We decided to put a slow ‘bachata/reggae’ rhythm to give a slow dance feel and hopefully provoke the idea of waves breaking in shallow waters in the warm sunshine. A great place to dance and have fun.

In October 2020, I was fortunate enough to return to Corfu and took the opportunity to use a ‘go-pro’ camera on a quiet sandbank to do some underwater filming. We embedded the camera in the sand, set the film running and waited to see what would happen.

The attached video 'Secret Beach', is the result.

In these cold, dark nights of the northern hemisphere winter and covid segregation, I hope the music and the video brings you a little cheer and gives you a feeling of warm, calm, serenity.

Stay safe.
God bless.

Cheers Peter

Ps………………………..the music doesn’t start until 15 seconds into the video!!
