The Bass Guitar gives a great counterpoint to the vocals and this drum percussion set of play is perfect for this kind of genre. The strings are also an excellent touch, on the fiddle or is it violin? Maybe I'm off course there. I love the tone of your voice, so sincere and harmonizing with your back up Singer. The lyrics are so mindful of the cries of the heart during our worship. You have really caught your listeners imagination in this song and I give you an round of applause. more The Opening of this song reminds me of another song which has stood the test of time because of it's haunting melody and interesting lyrics; That song is Kryptonite - by Three Doors Down. However, as this song progresses, suddenly you find yourself shot down the highway in a high speed pursuit of enjoyment.
My first impression is (wow, this is cool, reminds me of Kryptonite, and then, someone "just threw me in the backseat, and took me for a ride" [a lyrical reference to a Blue Oyster Cult song : Dominance & Submission. Anyroad, this is the imaginative kalaidascope of reference material going through my mind when I listen to this song. This is a good thing, because, if a song doesn't remind you of another great song, well then, the songwriter and musicians haven't done a great job of creating!
Arrangement: This song is an interessting mix of well blended instruments; yes, bass, drums, guitars, and vocals.
In the moment tha the you hear the sound of a car starting up, with a touch of the pedal, and the pipes belting out the exhaust note; I heard a 2006 Mazda or its equivalent. It would have been better with a song beginning like this, to actually start up a true muscle car like: a 1968 Olds Cutlass 442 with a 455 cubic inch big block with headers, and dual exhaust. just sayin'. After that, the music starts nicely.
Vocals & Lyrics: The vocals are good, and the message in the lyrics is there, but in certain moments, I cannot distinguish what is being sung; perhaps the enunciation, or pronunciation is a bit off, or else the mix for the vocals could be tweaked in the mids. Perhaps it's my 64yr old ears or my headphones while listening; but the vocals are indistinct; But the sense of message I get is a story about a dude having the time of his life in a car, being chased by the police, but realizing that he needs to change some things in his life before he gets thrown in the slammer. ?? I don't know.
Drums: As a drummer I understand each drummer has his own style of playing, and the type or brand of kit he prefers; in this particular song; is certain moments, the drummer seems to stumble or else lose his place in the song; for example; playing a fill in part in awkward spots - ie 8th measure after the car start would've been a great place to place a fill, 12th measure doesn't need a fill, measure 16 needs a fill right before the vocals start; At the at the 4th measure into the 2nd guitar solo, there seems to be a stumble in the drumming; as if the drummer is unsure of what to play there, or else where his is in the song; ? Snare drum is too high in tone, try playing a ludwig snare, 5ply maple, with a fatter tone; you can get a fatter and raw sound by slapping the rim slightly with that middle part of your stick and get a really cool blues sound; what you have here sounds like a high toned marching snare; which is a bit distracting really.
Guitar: I liked what was played in the 3rd guitar solo/break toward the last of the song; THAT should be played in the first sole spot, like a teaser of better stuff yet to happen; 1st & 2nd solos are a bit too much and too complicated; In a fast paced song like this; it's much better audio wise, the tease the listener in the beginning solo; then give just a bit more in the 2nd, simply adding to the first solo during the 2nd solo and then add a twist to it; in the 3rd solo and out to the end; let go with something that gives the song a punch in the ears; during the outro, or ending of the song, stretch out your licks and carry the melody off into infinity. with a sense of a flying, and soaring eagle in flight.
