Abbi-K
Originating from the tropic island of St. Thomas,
singer/songwriter/musician/worship leader
Abigail Kichelle Herbert, also known as Abbi-K,
was born with music flowing through her veins.
Before the age of one, she and her family relocated
to Antigua. By the age of ten, she began discovering
her innate musical ability and shortly after taught
herself how to play the keyboard, guitar, and drums.
Despite her large array of instrumental talent,
it was her raspy yet powerful voice that became
her signature sound. It wasn’t long before she
embarked on her musical journey by joining a local
Christian singing group. Being the youngest in this
group of six girls, Abbi-K was given her first
taste of performing in front of crowds as well
as the opportunity to sing several solos. It was
then that people began to recognize the unique and
big sound coming from this seemingly small girl.
At the age of seventeen, Abbi-K moved with her mother
and brother to New York City. She began leading
worship at various churches while much of her free
time was spent exploring her talent in creative
writing with her brother, Kareem Herbert. After
finishing high school, Abbi-K along with Kareem,
became music directors at a local church. She
released a promotional CD in 2009 entitled,
Beginnings and consequently a year later was
given the opportunity to be featured on a few
gospel artists albums.
In 2012, Abbi-K became involved with a
Non-Profit Organization called New Creations,
which was created to form initiatives, targeting the
youth to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to help
restore broken lives. New Creations launched a
specific initiative called "Stand Out" which
hosted a tour to seven Government High Schools,
which quickly gained national recognition.
The students were presented with a positive
message about pursuing moral and personal
excellence. The Stand Out initiative ended
with a concert, for which Abbi-K co-wrote
and performed the theme song "Stand Out"
which aired on major radio stations in Antigua.
The concert also featured International
Grammy Nominee Gospel Artists, Da' (expired link)
and The Ambassador amongst others.
The producer from Stile Records, Karl Marrett,
first heard Abbi-K’s voice in church and
eventually signed her five years later.
Her highly anticipated debut album
(expired link).(Heavens Advocates Riding Didactically)
features a collection of inspirational melodies
that span a variety of genres.
