On September 1st, my new song "Harder Than Diamonds" comes out! To spice things up, we're giving away one of our brand new Spring Owls Eco-tees.

"Harder Than Diamonds" is kinda dreamy and meshes a bird's-eye view perspective with a more personal one. While there's a story about the excitement of meeting someone new--the biggest of smiles and hardest of laughs, the chorus zooms out--hinting at common truths about life itself, often easier seen from a bird's-eye view.
After years struggling to complete my second album, I took a leap of faith and moved to South Korea to teach English.
That move transformed my life. I was immersed completely into a different culture, without an instrument, bonding with my students, falling in love with non-fiction, and discovering myself without music. It wasn't easy, but for the first time, I had perspective on my life. It was nutritiously humbling.
When it was time to come back to the United States, I had no intention of pursuing music. I merely wanted to live in a big city with amazing weather. That landed me in Los Angeles--a beautiful city of creators. It didn't take long for me to feel inspired. I decided to scratch the itch and finish my second album--'Love Evolving' (a project I'd started in 2014).
To revive the project and give it a dreamy sci-fi vibe, I launched a crowdfunding campaign and we raised a little over $10k to finish the music and create eco-friendly products.
Now I'm here to tell you the first single from that project is coming out September 1st!
PRE-SAVE my new single for a chance to win a new eco t-shirt!

I'm releasing this song into a world that is much different than the one I wrote it. I hope it brings you joy in these difficult times.

Today, I want to share some of my passion with you. It's a little longer and heady than my typical emails, but it means a lot to me that you read it (if you're up for it, of course).
What's in a name?
The name Spring Owls didn't just come from out of the blue sky above. Nope, it's very intentional. It came from the questions: Why? and Who? ...Why do I do what I do? and who am I?
The word "Spring" is associated with rebirth, potential, and possibility (perhaps even hope). I think it's safe to say that we're ready to start the next chapter of our lives, with a focused passion in our eyes and hope in our pockets.
Now the word "Owls" is connected to all kinds of lore, but I'm most inspired by the ones about wisdom. I'm unsure who said it first, but here's paraphrase of something I try to live by: "those that learn from their mistakes are smart; those that learn from the mistakes of others are wise" (I suppose this also applies to successes).
I'm not just a musician and honestly never fit well into the stereotype. I'm a dreamer and innovator fueled by...well... "Spring" and "Owls". The sum of my ambition is all about positively impacting the world. Music does some of that work, but taking action away from songs is important to my goals.
"Now What?" askes the owl...
We live within a society that puts plastic straws and bags in our hands without hesitation--a culture of thoughtless waste and use. Culture perpetuates it as normal, but it can be easy to forget that we create culture. It's not normal to pollute.
We inherently know it's a recipe for disaster...billions of individuals using something once or twice before tossing it into a dumpster or, even worse, the ground. If something is so bad, why do people continue to do it? Arguably, "profitability" and "convenience" dictate most of what culture says is okay. It's human nature to be biased toward things that feel good.
Eco-friendly lifestyles take a lot of effort and are often more expensive to maintain. The system is setup for waste not reuse.
This is the beginning of our new chapter at Spring Owls:
Spring Owls products will be eco-friendly forever.
Spring Owls will always source from the highest eco-friendly materials available.
Spring Owls will continue to write and produce music supported by integrity and genuine creative expression.
Spring Owls will always put equally high effort into products as our music.
Spring Owls will continue to seek out new mays to make the eco-lifestyle convenient.
Hope you have a great day. Sending you my love. May we be the neighbors we hope to meet.
