About Jorge Boig
Jorge Boig is the artistic name of Jorge Torres Benapres, Chilean composer, arranger, singer and versatile multi instrumentalist (Piano, Guitar, flute, Quena, Clarinete, y charango ) who has created in various musical styles, from songwriting and pop to the composition of learned scores and music of an incidental nature, especially for theater. In addition to his solo work, one of his major projects under his leadership was the highly mestizo group Mainumbi, where he coined the concept of "fusion salsa."
As a child he was motivated in music by his maternal grandfather Raúl Benapres Arrau, cousin of the excellent pianist. Then he began early studies of lyrical singing at the Alicia Puccio music academy and also of guitar with Juan Garrido. His studies were extended to composition and arrangements at the Modern School of Music, where he would later become a teacher until 2018. In 2005, in this context, he organized the Mainumbi group, an ensemble of percussions, winds and voices that explored the salsa as the main language fused with elements of jazz, rock and funk. His main album was the homonymous Mainumbi (2012).
