I like the originality of your work. Strong message and creativity is a big plus. Good production,i can hear some good vocals to this, good job on the final mix-down. This is a nice effort by gravely voiced John Anthony Saucier. If I were to place his voice-a gravely voiced Soft Machine era Robert Wyatt comes to mind. The tune sounds like it was written on piano. I heard mainly the piano as the melody instrument with a guitar solo and perhaps some organ accents. Guitar solo is nice and handles the minor chord shift well. I wonder how many comedians overdub a laugh track on a recording? Maybe I'm overly influenced by Catcher In The Rye? Anyway, nice effort.

Not really sure what the composer is going for here with this song. The opening is reminiscent of early abba or BeeGee's, but quickly becomes a bit jerky in its performance, and the heavily punctuated drums over the phrase "I'm a man" seem too disjointed. While this was the style for much of British 70's radio pop, it seems to be lost in the translation here. Once again, a cleaner main vocal would benefit the song, smoothing out the piano performance, and possibly minimizing the drums a bit. Would like to have an opportunity to hear this song remixed, as I think there is something there, but its hard to glean.

It is obvious to me that you are a very good songwriter. Several of the songs of yours I've reviewed have had really interesting melody lines that took me by surprise and I found myself enjoying them, even in some of their rougher stages. But they are well thought out and written. This is another one of those that has an interesting melody. The overall production of it is not what I would call radio ready, but if you are shopping any of these to other artists, this is an acceptable level of production. Good luck with it.

Your song is really great! I listen to it over and over again. The piano performance leaves an unforgettable impression. Also, the combination between the melody and the lyrics is quite touching. That slightly hoarse voice makes the performance even better. The only part that could be improved is singing of the high notes ;) Perhaps you don't need that "bitchy woman" at the end of the lyrics either.

I think this might be slightly out of your natural key. It just sounds a bit too strained in the vocal department. Those high notes are just not cutting it. Maybe drop it down a couple of steps in the key and focus on expressing the emotions within the narrative of the song instead of struggling to hit those higher vocal parts. The topic is not breaking any new ground here. Its been done... a lot, and by just about everyone. The music doesn't seem to be very dynamic, like canned music maybe? The lead guitar work is very tasty. Good tone and placement. The piano could probably do with a notch or two less in the volume, and maybe throw on an acoustic guitar, to shadow the chord progression and give it a little more body. The drum sounds a tad stiff and mechanical and this can ruin a good song fast. I like the organ setting and it is at a proper level in the mix. The bass needs to come way up in my opinion. As I stated before, it needs another try at the vocals or maybe alter the key of the song to fit a more narrator friendly story-telling vocal. It's about a minute too long, and though I do like the lead guitar work, this is what is giving the song its first handicap. A four and a half minute song should say a lot, and this one runs out of steam around two and a half minutes in. After a while it starts to get repetitive. Maybe think about getting another singer to take a stab at it. I find that when I write one that my voice isn't particularly adept at emulating (as far as style and flexibility goes) I will solicit another vocalist to to try it on for size before I start the process of a re-write. As is... This one needs a LOT of work. Sorry. I don't mean to sound so blunt, but this is why we ask for reviews isn't it? I know that a lot of my songs that get reviewed by others go through at least on rewrite as I like to listen to what someone else is hearing besides myself.

It's totally good end product of some highly qualified studio work, and it becomes absolutely obvious that this person, John Anthony, has definitively got a persona, and he has his style. I personally like the harmony of the song, and guitar part is exceptionally good altogether. As is the vocal part. We all are eager to have more of such cool songs for our listening pleasure.

Interesting way to begin the song. It catches your attention. The vocal and music work with each other, but I would like to hear the vocal a little clearer. Might need to come up in the mix. It has a live feel which is really cool. I love the guitar solo as well. I would love to hear some background vocals as well. Not as much a fan of the ending section. Good song overall.

Listening on phone speaker does not appear to alter impression of this song at first listen It is a classic pop country love ballad with a gritty vocal and yearning lyrics suitable to dance a waltz or slow jive to . The guitar lead is a nice change in texture and a good showcase for John's melodic Innovation . I have only listened once to this song and believe the number in question would sit well in a nights play list for a slow dance . A smokie slow tune with a nice lead break . Sincerely Dq

Have listened to this song a couple of times now. Grabs right from the start. Neatly mixed and mastered. All instruments really stand out when listening to this song. Vocals are exactly where they should be on a track of this quality. Lyrics really tell a story and stand out. Cool track though, and there´s obviously more where that came from.
