About J Nez

Born on November 12th, 1985, in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands to mother, Sandra Campbell and father, Michael Francis. Given the names Jasen Andre Campbell, also known by artist name J Nez.

Growing up in the church, music was all around me. My Grandmother took me to church and my Mother was in the choir and so she was always singing. I became fascinated with the art of music at a very young age. I learnt and began playing the drums at the age of 7. I was my church's 'drummer boy'.

As I reached my teen years I was introduced through society and TV to other types of music, and as any teen I had chosen a favorite music group called Cash Money Millionaires. They inspired me to grasp the skill and art of rapping.

At the age of 16 I was officially introduced to rapping and the making of songs, through the influence of my friends. In that time I wrote my first verse to a local beat called "Be Eazy". It was a great local hit and so I joined a rap group called (expired link). / Da Link Set ((expired link)). From then on I was identified by the name J Nez.

Over the years my group and I have performed in numerous amounts of events; birthday parties, for the Cayman Islands National Football Team and producing music for local artists. We've opened acts for Damian Marley, Miss Teen 2006 & 2007, Swanky, One-Three-Four-Five Clothing launch featuring Tami Chynn, CayFest, JGHS Valentines Fashion Show and many more.

We believe it is very important to be involved in our country. In doing so, my group and I have donated some proceeds made from selling our newest released album titled "From Down Yah" to the Pines. Due to two of our hit songs "Sky" and "Dear Father" (a few of our many inspirational uplifting songs mainly directed for the youth of our country) we have been requested to take part and perform for the AIDS Foundation to raise money for the AIDS Awareness in which we support as a group. Since then, we have been interviewed on Cayman 27 and an article has also been released in our local newspaper the Caymanian Compass.

In the past years I have been focusing on being a Solo Artist and working on my own projects. My group has encouraged me in my choice as an individual. In doing so, I have released a selection of great hit singles on my island such as "Hold You", "2 Face" and "Speeding". I've also taken up Directing and have directed most of my videos as well as mentoring and Directing other young upcoming Artists in my country.

Since my first introduction to music it has been evident that my passion for music has grown and I have come to the realization that music to me is like food, it's a necessity; I need it to live. My goal is not only to put my all into my music but also to put my hometown (Grand Cayman) on the map. I want the place where I became to be known to the world. As for my future endeavors, I intend to produce a solo album in the near future. To broaden my solo career, I have been working with International artists as well as producers. My desire is to succeed in the music industry and to go the maximum level that there is (maybe even higher)
