INFERIA «GRIND CUMPAIgM » since 1989
Inferia wreaks havoc and is ruthless from start to finish. You will have a few breaks to breathe but not enough to fill your lungs with air. The covers are formidable and will leave you on the floor. The titles follow one another without downtime and you will not realize, sometimes, that you have moved on to another track.
The voice is abject, odiously execrable and alternates at leisure filthy growls and infamous pig squeals.
The sickly speed of this album associated with an unfailing aggressiveness means that you will take such a dose of energy that you will have a hard time coming down. Grind Cumpaign dezips, desolders and trepans with a strong desire to destroy everything and you will not escape this rule.

POST-MORTEM "the monumental pandemonium"
"The Monumental Pandemonium" offers a lot of variations and a bunch of influences like IMMOLATION, (old) SUFFOCATION and also (new) DECAPITATED and (new) VADER too. All in all, these guys are top notch musicians playing aggressive, heavy and technical Death Metal.
The two guitarists, Samuel Clauss and Jack Ruetsch, hammer the listener with a mixture of heavy as hell, but melodic, muted and tremolo riffs.
the drums have a natural sound which adds to the organic aspect of the album. Laurent Greder is a machine behind the kit. He also knows when to step back and let the parts breathe and groove. Pierre Mohn's punchy bass performance is the perfect match between guitars and drums
Last, but not least, Xavier Schreiber tops it all off with his deep, expressive voice. His multi-dimensional approach to the vocal parts, blending mid-height screams in between, is topped only by his almost effortless exact phrasing. The blend is well balanced and defined.
This album is brilliant and huge.

DEATH FROM ABOVE "altered dimension"
Coming directly from Bayonne, the friends of DEATH FROM ABOVE offer us a damn good 1st long opus! Oscillating between a death metal of European obedience and a US approach to death metal, the combo delivers an efficient, brutal, fast and technically above average performance. In the purest tradition of a PESTILENCE or DEATH which would have spawned with VADER or even INIQUITY, this album beats frankly and will put the esgourdes in their place, ie at the bottom of the socks!
For fans of MORBID ANGEL, PESTILENCE, VADER, DEICIDE, DYING FETUS

I have no idea where some labels get all their bands from. Great Dane are one example where I always wonder where the hell the found their latest addition to the roster. Stormgrey are one of their newest discoveries. Hailing from Lithuania these five gentlemen play a very traditional style of death metal, and they do so in an absolutely competent way. Looking at the line-up I was surprised to see two of the members have links to Dissection, but a closer look reveals that we are not talking about the big boys from Sweden but another death metal outfit from Lithuania. So no starting bonus for being prominent in any way. “DNA of Chaos” is their second full length so neither are they complete newbies.
To be fair Stormgrey do not need any kind of additional help as their music pretty much stands for itself. This is chunky and groovy old school death metal without any kind of big surprises of flashy effects. What Stormgrey have done is to take the formula defined by the old guard (Bolt Thrower, Aspyhx, Grave etc.) and reconstruct the best elements to a T. So in case you are looking for something progressive or innovative you can save your time and look elsewhere. Nothing new to be found here. On the other hand if you cannot get enough of that kind of music you came to the right place as you probably won’t find a much better album this year in that sub-genre.
Though clearly sitting most comfortably in the mid-paced area, Stromgrey have enough changes and dynamics to not completely feel like some cheap worship band, though wearing their influences on their sleeves with pride. There are some doomy sections as well as a few blasts, but all in all the main focus here lies on the unstoppable groove. The riffs are forged with precision and hit hard and direct, while the drum work is pulverizing and when laid beneath such a solid arsenal of riffs with fantastic growling the whole music has the dynamic of a tank. The soloing is used minimally but when it does appear, we are treated to some blistering lead melodies spicing things up a bit.
Whether blasting at full pace, slowing down to a doomy crawl or pounding away in the middle area, Stormgrey are consistently delivering a stream of unending high quality death metal that should be enough fun for each fan of the classics. Perhaps not the most innovative approach, but Stromgrey do what they set out to do in the highest quality and with still enough of their own character to justify their existence. The production is mighty and stomping, highlighting the crushing nature of the music even more. There is not much room for improvement in that area. All in all “DNA of Chaos” hits the nail right on the head. If there is any critics I could make is that I would like to see one big hit on their third album, but other than that this one is a safe bet and should be checked out by any fan of the style.

BLOODRIDE "idiocracy"
While the main competence of Great Dane Records might be within the death metal sector they also have some nice thrash albums to offer once in a while. One good example for this is their newest output by Finnish thrash maniacs Bloodride. These lads are no newbies and “Idiocracy” is their fourth full length. They all have experience in various other bands and projects, but four of the five guys have been with Bloodride since the beginning in the year 2000. And this shows as we are talking about a band performing like a well-oiled unit and being confident about what kind of music they want to present to the metal world. There are no surprises and Bloodride don’t see the need to go for any half-assed experiments. Instead they throw 39 minutes of relentless and traditional thrash at the listener so fans of that style need to take a listen.
Of course they are drawing influences from classic bands such as Testament, Slayer or Overkill, but also have some of the freshness that more recent acts of the modern thrash scene like Municipal Waste and Violator going on. The main ingredients come in form of aggressive riffs, fast drums and a duel between angry vocals and delicious lead guitars, to create a raw thrash metal sound from the old days without coming across too dusty. Of course you could start to argue that bands like Bloodride could try to offer more originality and use their unquestionable talent and inspiration to create something with a more distinct DNA, but when the music is played and performed with such enthusiasm and perfection I personally do not complain but instead enjoy the old school goodness.
That being said Bloodride have enough variation to offer to keep things interesting enough. While songs like opener “Rapid Fire” gallop out of the gates and with fast chords and classic shouts others like “Stranger Roots” have a slightly groovier mid-tempo groove. Sometimes like in “Fleshless” they even border on death metal territory, but overall they stay within the boundaries of classics defined by the heroes from the Bay Area back in the eighties. The guitar playing is outstanding with the two axe-men Simo and Teemu doing their best to give us a nice mixture of crushing riffs and loads of lead harmonies and a few crazy soloing passages. The drumming is also on point and it is obvious that we are talking about great musicians. While most of the time driving along at breakneck speed and barely letting up Bloodride are able to deliver smooth transitions and tempo changes with ease.
The album also benefits from a killer production that affords every instrument the clarity and separation to be heard, whilst providing a meatiness and power to make sure that each of the musicians brings something to the fight. The whole package is perfectly polished with the cover artwork also being a highlight so getting the digipack should be the way to go. If I had any kind of criticism to dispense, it would be that perhaps a tad more variety across “Idiocracy” and the one absolutely killer tune would put Bloodride into the absolute elite level. That being said I can only recommend to any serious thrash fan to order this album.

SCORN "winds of torment"
Ten tracks are presented by SCORN from France on their debut. The band seems to have appeared out of nowhere, since no previous releases are listed. Sometimes I wonder if it is not also a big risk for a record label to sign such bands, but in this case Great Dane Records did everything right. It is a mixture of American Thrash Metal (OVERKILL, EXODUS, TESTAMENT) and Death Metal riffs here and there, while the vocals are constantly Death Metal grunts. Of course the name MALEVOLENT CREATION is at hand, but SCORN are taking things a little more moderately. So you will not find high-speed blasting all over the place, instead more nuanced mid-tempo. Which is, in this case, a great idea. Because some riffs are, at least for my ears, a heavy reminder of the later outputs of CARCASS. A bit melodic, a bit morbid, a bit swirling. Even if the music sounds pretty simply structured when you first hear it, on closer inspection it is definitely not. There are the many small interspersed musical delicacies like DEATH used in their later years. In fact, the more I think about it, “Winds Of Torment” is a found treat for any fan of albums like “Symbolic” or “The Sound Of Perseverance”. So that should be motivation enough to take listen

Both being from the North of France, the first signatures are initially regional with groups like DISGUST, SCARVENGER, WILD KARNIVOR, VAKARM, NIRNAETH and DYLATH-LEEN. Very quickly, the young northern label acquired a small notoriety and thanks to national distribution via SEASON OF MIST, began to interest groups from all over France such as CARCARIASS, RED DEAD, RECUEIL MORBIDE, NO RETURN, VOORHEES, NIHILISM, HEKSEN , WARKUNT, IN PURULENCE, POST-MORTEM, CATALYST and ARMAGEDDON DEATH SQUAD. To pursue its development, GREAT DANE finds distributors abroad. CODE7 and MVD respectively allow the label to be present in Europe and in the United States and Canada. There followed a few signatures of foreign groups such as the Canadians DEEPLY CONFUSED, the Belgians SKINWEAVER, the Swiss CALCINED, the Norwegians BEFOULED and the Finnish REFUSAL and ASSATUR.
