DRIFT AWAY

Thanks for the many notes to me asking about new songs. This is one that I love to death. The first time out it was on vinyl. Sung by the oh so smooth Dobie Gray, this has been covered by Ike & Tina, The Stones, Michael Bolton and of course Uncle Kracker who enlisted Dobie on the bridge and the chorus at the end. Written by the amazing Mentor Williams who along with his brother Paul just about owned the West Coast for a while. I'm not selling this song. It just inspires me and it's a favorite of a promoter who booked my bands and solo act. His name, was Donnie Wachal who operated the Col Ballroom in Davenport where Jimi Hendrix, REO, and about a zillion big time bands played on a beautiful stage in Davenport, Iowa. Donny was my first friend to pass from the pandemic. He bragged to others about my live version when I played at his restaurant, the Filling Station. So then, to Mentor, Dobie and Donnie. I bow with this tribute.

 :scream: :smirk:  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :rage: :disappointed: :sob: :kissing_heart:  :pensive: :confounded: :flushed: :relaxed: :mask:  :broken_heart: :expressionless:  :weary: :triumph:  :sleepy:
