International Women's Day

Each year International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first International Women's Day was held in 1911. Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. I began writing a song about the marginalization of women worldwide and became overwhelmed by the magnitude of the issues facing women. The issues range from less pay for the same work, to the rape and murder of women as a weapon of war. I made a decision to focus on one story - the story of Malala. The following folk-rock song portrays the courage of one girl facing systemic sexism. Song 1: Malala Please go to Malala for the soundcloud link to the studio version. Amnesty International reports that Indigenous women are going missing and being murdered at a much higher rate than other women in Canada—a rate so high it constitutes nothing less than a national human rights crisis. This is my eulogy to Canada's 1200 murdered and missing First Nation's women and girls. Song 2: Snowflakes Please go to Snowflakes to watch the YouTube video of the mastered CD version.
