About Roderick Cotton

Roderick Cotton, born in Rock Island, IL, grew up listening to a broad array of music, but grew a great love for jazz and R&B. The dream of playing the saxophone started in Rock Island but did not begin until 1989 in Mobile, AL.
In 2007, Roderick began writing music for his project entitled Modification. With its debut in 2008, Modification displayed Cotton’s talent of diverging from the traditional jazz standards while sounding just as smooth. The album promises to entertain you as it moves from relaxing grooves to sounds of spontaneous expression. After its release, Roderick performed on the Miller Light Stage at the Bayfest Music Festival in Mobile, AL and was showcased at the Cutting Edge Music Business Conference in New Orleans, LA.
Cotton’s sophomore album, Transitions, takes you on a ride from fantasy to reality as you listen. Influenced by the late Grover Washington Jr, Gerald Albright and much of the rhythm and blues from his childhood, Transitions proves to be far from the formal or traditional jazz you’re used to.
Not only are you guaranteed to hear the growth, sweat, and tears poured into this new sound from Cotton, but you will also hear the fusion of other artists as they blend to create this groove; sensations of modern pop, rhythm, and funk merged into jazz at its finest. This newly released project is for the grown and sexy who enjoy fusing different genres to create the perfect sound.
Cotton is currently promoting and performing while working on his third project entitled, Shades of Blue.
