An "Emotional Mirror...."
Almost all of my music and poetry is written for people with shattered dreams, broken promises, parents who left, or relationships that ended. My poems are an "emotional mirror" for people, and they have often started on the road to healing after they could see themselves and their struggles clearly.
I wrote this poem for someone whose relationship ended with the person they were to marry....they were left alone to try and pick up the pieces. I saw the pain in their eyes and I had to write about it. When I wrote the poem, I had no idea what had happened to them....
Quietly There
When our eyes meet sometimes I look away
‘Cause I see pain and I see the blur
Of feelings in your life rushing by so quickly
Eluding my grasp but touching my heart
Promises made by some to me
They still hurt and I can still see
The time when they turned away from me
Eluding my grasp and hurting my heart
When I see you I see the reflections
Of people and places going in all directions
Away from me when I needed them most
Like the ocean tide away from the sandy coast
When our eyes meet I want to share my thoughts
I want to show you the hurt that we both share
I want you to know that you’re not alone
That your name comes to mind when I’m in prayer
I can see that you’re hurting from dreams that crumbled
When colors on a sunny day turned to gray
When you sat on a swing and no one pushed you
When your hopes got up and walked away
But in the silence that now is yours
Among the swings and carousels and broken toys
Walking towards you as you sit alone
Is someone who can dry your tears
He’s quiet and gentle and knows so much
He’s loving and patient and waits to touch
The feelings rushing by so quickly
That touch his heart but never elude his grasp
He gave his life a long time ago
His heart was broken so that you could know
What it means to never be forgotten
Even when the cold winds blow
I’m praying that you’ll ask Jesus to come into your heart
‘Cause he’ll touch you and help you to deal with life
He’ll be there forever and won’t turn away
From promises he makes ‘cause he’s there to stay.
