Caspar McCloud’s “Revelation Rocker” Review
From Strawberry Studios to Streets of Gold
by Joshua Warren

Caspar McCloud is back!

Truth be told, he has never left us. Since 2014, Caspar has been busy both in the studio and outside of it, releasing four singles and four full albums of high-quality material, all this while preaching and performing live around the world with the likes of the legendary Phil Keaggy.

Yet it doesn’t even end there!

Somehow, somewhere in between all those impressive projects, he managed to carve out time to write some interesting books (namely, his autobiography “Nothing Is Impossible”, "Unmasking The Future", "What Was I Thinking?" and "Spiritual Encounters With The Shroud") and to continue to develop as an equestrian portrait painter with his work even being placed in the collection of Royalty.

However, music listeners unfamiliar with his work shouldn’t think that Caspar is new to the music industry. As recounted in his biography, “Nothing Is Impossible”, Caspar’s guitar virtuosity has not gone unnoticed. He was once handpicked to portray John Lennon in the Broadway production of “Beatlemania” back in 1977, but left before allowing it to cast too long a shadow over his career. Once back in the (expired link)., Caspar landed in 10cc's Strawberry Studios Manchester where he recorded and released “Messin’ Around” on Rocksteady Records (“Caspar”, 1979), now a sought-after collector’s item.

Caspar continued working in the business with releases on Atlantic -- “Self-Portrait” in 1978 and “Talk To Me” in 1983. Apart from his British / Beatle-esque pop vocals and masterful handling of the guitar, none of those previous releases gave any indication as to where Caspar would eventually end up on his musical or spiritual journey. (Details of the incredible events surrounding his conversion to being a born-again Christian are recounted in detail in his previously mentioned biography.)

Fast-forward to 2018.

Through the caring, capable hands and ears of producer and drummer Michael Angel, Caspar’s latest effort, “Revelation Rocker” brings listeners pristine McCloud. Both the music and the vocals are in-your-face from the first track to the last.
The first track, “Wheat and Tares”, wastes no time getting things started. After a quick drum fill, listeners are thrown right into the first verse and the track refuses to let up. The unorthodox drum pattern keeps things tight and interesting on the rhythm end. A short-but-delightful musical treat in the form of a gnarling guitar solo awaits listeners near the end.

As soon as you catch your breath, “Let Them See We are Christians” ramps up. This track has Caspar wearing his pastor’s hat (Did I mention he was a pastor too?), reminding Christian listeners that the world will know they are genuine followers of Jesus by how they treat each other. Listeners are compelled to love over and between some heavy guitar riffs and pounding drum and bass.

The next track, “Jesus Wins”, is the truly stand-out track of the lot. Yes, Christian rockers now have a new Gospel rock anthem. We are welcomed into this classic rock shindig via an intricate interplay between the drums and Caspar’s blaring guitar with a riff that sounds like one of the best lost riffs in rock music history. The lyrics are direct and without compromise, as are those of every track on the album: “The Devil loses and Jesus wins!”

Other noteworthy tracks include: “Pictures of Jesus” with its lush, beautiful chorus over a wonderful rock riff; “Push Back” with its heavy timbre wrapped around an unusual chord progression with a pounding, catchy chorus; two beautiful instrumentals, “Camelot Cliffs” and “Escape In Em”, that are like delightful rather than dystopian prog-rock tracks; a wonderful acoustic version of “Jesus Be Glorified” (first featured on “Dead Men Like Me are Just Happy to be Alive”); “Nimrod’s Head” acts as a musical overview of what some may consider “fringe topics” and their potential relationship to biblical prophecy; “Speak to the Mountains” works as a musical canvas to display a beautiful guitar solo; Caspar even goes acapella on “If I Had My Guitar”.

Every single Caspar McCloud album showcases the impeccable skill of this truly underrated guitarist. Even with that understanding, this album has brought an expanded, more full-bodied auditory lift to Caspar’s catalog. While his recent productions have been very fine (2014’s “Dead Men Like Me Are Just Happy to Be Alive” and “Communion” from 2016), this release brings us even more improved sonics and vocals and, I dare say, performances. We are treated throughout the album with thick harmonies, more wonderful, varied guitar tones, tight, highly-developed guitar riffs, and thumping bass (that’s Caspar on bass). The vocal performance on this release in particular is one of Caspar’s best to date.

“Revelation Rocker” works well to prove that Caspar’s virtuosity is more faithfully brought to us, the music listening public, when in the hands of fine producers like Michael Angel. There are layers and layers of music and vocals there for listeners to hear in repeated listenings.

To this point, I think neither Caspar McCloud’s skill nor body of work has yet to get the attention they both deserve. With its soaring, incredible guitars, its classic rock-tinged sound, and its tight harmonies sprinkled throughout, this album might very well reignite a Christian rock revival in the meantime. At the very least, it proves that Caspar McCloud is a Christian AND musical force to be reckoned with.

Full disclosure: I was given a copy of the album for review purposes. I tried as best I could to be as impartial and honest as possible.
Caspar McCloud is a virtuoso guitarist, singer, and songwriter, an acclaimed portrait artist, as well as an equestrian, ordained minister, and bestselling author having written five books to date.
A modern day Renaissance man, the multi-talented McCloud has wowed fans and fellow guitarists with his lightening fast technique, his use of effects, a la his friend and mentor Phil Keaggy, as well as his gentle, serene, celtic/classical tinged acoustic playing.

Caspar signed to Atlantic Records after leaving his home in England for New York City and was touted as the "next Jimi Hendrix" by the legendary Ahmet Ertegun, CEO and Founder of Atlantic Records. Befriended by Phil Keaggy, seven years of patient witnessing culminated in Caspar giving his heart to Christ on an airplane in the midst of a personal crisis. Ever since Caspar has yielded his considerable talents to God. He has recorded over ten projects since his first now rare UK release “Messin’ Round", which is an in-demand collector’s item.

Some of Caspar’s early recordings Upon This Rock gained him national acclaim with his single I Need The Lord. He went on to record with his band The Ministry of Three that included: In Adoration, The Living Word, Soul Saved, In Our Life Time, World Without Borders, and his solo recording Dead Men Like Me Are Just Happy to Be Alive, which was recently released in 2014. Followed by his 2015 release, a remake of In Adoration. 2016 Faithfulness the Anthology, Communion, and 2017 release of the all acoustic Pictures of Jesus.

Solo projects like Mercy, Grace and Love feature more of his classical/celtic/ worship acoustic style. He has played and/or recorded with many celebrities and friends over the years including from the secular music field: Tommy James and the Shondells, Michael Shrieve, and Michael Carabella of Santana, Matt Bassionett, of Joe Satriani band, G3 and Ringo Starr band, Eddie Zynn of FogHat and Hall and Oates. He has performed and/or recorded with his friend and mentor Phil Keaggy, Peter Furler and Jody Davis and the Newsboys, John Waller, The Smalltown Poets, Disciple, Susan Ashton and David Teems from the Christian music industry.

Caspar is also a world-class portrait artist with a Pre-Raphaelite approach, specializing in Equestrian subject matter. Some of his work is included in the personal collections of the British Royal Family.

Caspar’s first book was his inspiring autobiography entitled, Nothing is Impossible, which includes his testimony of turning from the glittery, rock star world to wholeheartedly following Christ as a result of his long term friendship with Phil Keaggy, the book also shares the dramatic story of his medically-verified healing of an incurable heart condition.

His second book, What Was I Thinking published by Destiny Image deals with the spiritual roots of disease and the science of epigenetics, which is the science of how thought effects physiology, through the lens of the Holy Bible. Exposing the Spirit of Self Pity, continues that theme, focusing on the deleterious effects of self pity. His book, The Shroud of Turin Speaks for Itself with co-author Simon Brown reached the #1 spot on Amazon. His most recent books are Spiritual Encounter With the Shroud: Caspar McCloud Interviews with (expired link). Hi Pastor Caspar McCloud!
Congratulations, Your song Kingdom of God is #1 for Christian in United States, Georgia!

"Sin makes you dirty, Salvation washes you clean." Pastor Caspar McCloud

Pity so many have now woken up from the American dream to a time of doom and gloom discouragement.
Nevertheless, if America would humble itself and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14) she might once again become a nation of self-reliant farmers and ranchers, craftsmen, artist, authors and enterprises who overcome all things in Christ.
This would effectively hinder the plans of the Kingdom of Darkness with those who seek full spectrum dominance by deflating their abilities to rule the nation by calling evil good and good evil.

Over the years from my personal observations as a pastor I have come to realise that some people seem like they really don’t want to really get free. The enemy of their souls has got them so confused and so programmed in toxic thinking that they have a hard time sorting out which path to follow to find freedom. They often have injured their good decision maker in their frontal lobe with various emotional abuses, it is that part of the region in the brain that also presides over reasoning, and self-control.
In other words they don’t seem to want to discipline themselves to make right choices; as they are so programmed in their thought life that they fall easily into the devils traps, so they stay in their rebellion and keep fellowshipping with devils. They do not fully understand the finished work of the Cross of Jesus/Yeshua or the fact that God won’t share you with devils. 1 Corinthians 10:20, "But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils."
Seems that some people just give excuses trying to validate and justify why they are depressed and living in such a state. Living defeated and not understanding why their prayers go unanswered. Allowing the enemy of their soul to torment them because they often can’t see they are entertaining the spirit of self-pity and that they are fellowshipping with devils by doing so. In our Guide Book to the Supernatural we read in places like Jeremiah 5:25,"Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you."
Psalm 6618,"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:"
Isaiah 59:1."Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
3For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness."
The things that come out of your heart and speak through your mouth can greatly hinder your life and prayers.
Luke 6:45, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." Now you must understand you can’t really change people, you can encourage them, but you can’t change them unless they willingly surrender to the Lord Jesus/Yeshua.
You can speak faith filled words over them, educated them and pray for them and bless them. Your faith can even trump their entertaining spirits of doubt and unbelief. The Lord can even perform miracles in their lives, but at the end of the day you can not make them do what is right. When you don’t do what is right you end up doing what is wrong by default, which is still a form of rebellion and witchcraft, and that is a serious spiritual matter. For the Word of God shall not change but it shall change you as you apply it in your life. James 1:22, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
Fight back overcomers, trust Papa God for every detail and stay in faith! Because “All”, things are possible with God! I pray the Lord’s supernatural peace, healing, provision and protection cover you always with oceans of agape love in the almighty name of Jesus/Yeshua!

"Religion comes to change the way you dress, whereas true Christianity changes you from in the inside out. "

For those suffering with Asthma the Gospel has good news in that the Lord Jesus is able to heal all sickness and all diseases (Psalm 103:3) Once again I tell you that your body is responding to your thought life. In a book called Pathophysiology, The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children, on page 309 in Table 9-4 "Examples of Stress Related Diseases and Conditions" it is clearly stated that, "Asthma, is a hypersensitivity reaction, and therefore it is classed as a stress-anxiety disorder." This means there is a spirit of fear operating that God did not give you. (2 Timothy 1:7) Because Asthma is a cell membrane rigidity disease. The old school of thought in the medical world of allergists and specialist have taught over the years that asthmatic attacks were caused by external exposure to certain irritants, pollens, dust and dander and that sort of thing. Then studies came out from the research team at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, which discovered that a asthmatic attack has nothing to do with what you breathe in. Instead it appears some internal invisible dynamic is at work, causing the stiffening of the muscles of the lungs (alveoli) producing the rigidity. Causing the inability of the lungs to exhale enough carbon dioxide to get the proper amounts of oxygen into the lungs and into the bloodstream. In other words asthma is now considered an anxiety disorder which is a modern word for fear and this can certainly be inherited genetically. Let us learn to take control of our thought life and get into the Word of God so the Word of God can get into us as it will bring healing to all your flesh. Proverbs 4:20-24) The Lord Jesus/Yeshua said in John 10:27,” My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” Fight back overcomers, trust Papa God for every detail and stay in faith! Because “All”, things are possible with God! I pray the Lord’s supernatural peace, healing, provision and protection cover you always with oceans of agape love in the almighty name of Jesus/Yeshua!

The original Greek word for repentance means cleansing your thinking. Considering God is a holy God we are called to put on the mind of Christ and see things from a heavenly perspective. In fact we read in 2 Corinthians 7:1,” Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear (reverence) of God.
Anything that you serve that is not of God is basically filthy. For example, entertaining the spirit of hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, strife, jealousy and envy, criticising, faultfinding, condemnation, anger, murmuring and complaining etc. We have these brilliant promises from the Lord and instructed to understand that not only does our flesh need daily washing, but so does our spirit. Repentance is also the condition for healing miracles to happen. Ephesians 5:26,” that he might sanctity and cleanse it with the washing of the word.”
Flight back Overcomers, I pray the Lord use you and bless you always in the almighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Messiah Yeshua.
In His love
Pastor Caspar
