About Paolo Giorgi

Paolo was born and lives in Firenze (Italy). Over the course of his musical career, parallel to his business career in the Intelligent Transport Systems field, Paolo has written over 150 songs.
Paolo met many of his favourite artists like Chris Simpson, James Taylor, Arnold Mc Culler, America, Tommy Emmanuel, John David Souther, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Ken Nicol, Karla Bonoff, Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Russ Barenberg, Russel Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Robert Mc Entee and he played live with some legendary artists like Chris Simpson of Magna Carta in 1998.

Paolo’s first song “One for the other” was written at the age of 15, with the guitar and harmonica by his side. First listening to English pop bands like Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, he was completely blown out by the folk English acoustic music and by the West Coast influence.
His major sources of inspirations in the years span from The Beatles, Magna Carta, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Eagles, Poco, Gordon Lightfoot, Mark-Almond, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, America, Simon and Garfunkel, Stephen Bishop, Tommy Emmanuel, Chat Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bonnie Raitt, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt to many, many others. Then guitars, banjo, mandolin, resophonic guitar, pedal steel, keyboards and ….an iMac did the rest, becoming his home studio. Nowadays his songs mainly come out from there.
Paolo released his first demo record in 1995, with two songs “Sea wave eyes” and “A knife to cut my pain”. Paolo then released his first CD The Stage, published by Abraxas, in 2010. His second cd Secret share has been published in 2016 and his third work, Nowadays and Yesterdays, was published in late 2019. Paolo is on the way to release a cd with a 12 song tribute to the english band Magna Carta and he is currently working on his next cd of original songs, expected likely in late 2021.

Dear friends, it is a great pleasure for me to send you this newletter with a link that makes me really happy and deeply honored to appear in the Magna Carta website. Magna Carta was a great progressive rock band in the seventies that I loved so much and that has always been a source of inspiration for me. Many great musicians played in their records, like Rick Wakeman (great session piano player that cooperated with David Bowie, Elton John, Yes, King Crimson, Cat Stevens just to say a few), Davey Johnstone (who is stil after 50 years Elton John's lead guitarist). My dear friend Chris Simpson, fantastic composer and guitarist, is still the leader of the band and I am so honored to have shared with him the writing of Listen, his words in my music.

This is the original one, cut as a duet: Chris and I. Hope you like it.
Stay well. Paolo

Dear friends,
I am working hard on a couple of projects and I am confident I will shortly publish many new songs. The first project is an old dream of mine to cover one of my favourite English progressive rock band Magna Carta. There will be a bunch of songs I started listening to in the seventies. I love this band and I have learned a lot from their music. The second one is a new album of mine putting together old and new tunes and just 2 or 3 covers from other favourite artists. I hope you are all well and safe and I can only say thank you so much to give me your daily support. Stay tuned! Paolo

Dear friends, sorry for this long silence but the period is not so easy to face. Fortunately my family is well and we try to do our best to live a decent life. May you have a 2021 with happiness and health and let's hope it may give us back a friendly horizon to hope on. Musically speaking I worked hard to my tribute to the 70ies english band Magna Carta. It will be a 12 song compilation all played by me and sung with my wife. One of them, Listen, is the song I included first in my cd Nowadays and Yesterdays but this new version is sung in a duet by Mr Chris Simpson (leader of Magna Carta who wrote the lyrics) and I. The cd is ready to be published. I am working now on the commercial side. Stay well and...tuned! Thank you for your continue support. I appreciate it so much. Hugs to you all. Paolo
