Still Pickin' Newsletter

Still Pickin’ Newsletter 2018 Vol. 10 No. 1 Hopefully you took the opportunity to get to the Joe Val Festival in mid-February for your winter bluegrass fix while Still Pickin’ was still on hiatus. The group plans to be back on the road by mid-April and they hope to see you out at one of their dates. A new venue the group has added to their work schedule this season are a few Elks Clubs. Still Pickin’ hopes you will be able to come out to support them as they make their music and their CD from last season known to folks in towns where they have not yet publicly performed. If you want to add these Elk lounge events to your calendar, here are the details: July 21 Danielson, CT Elks Club located at 13 Center Street October 13 Middletown, CT Elks Club located at 44 Maynard Street November 10 Putnam, CT Elks located at 64 Edmund Street Concerts at these locations will be set up café style. You may bring your own snacks to these events but will need to buy your beverages at the venue. Bar prices are favorably low. These lounge rooms each hold about 60 people so you will find these events to be close and personable. The tickets will be $10 and can be purchased from Jim Sharpley 860-933-3147 or at the door. Reservations recommended. Still Pickin’ will also be at the Shady Creek Homecoming Festival in August. All you need to do in order to attend this free festival located in Plainfield is to get an invitation directly from its producer, Nick Anderson. Give him a call and tell him Still Pickin’ sent you. He will definitely invite you. Here’s Nick’s phone number: 860-564-1018. A new chore on the agenda for Jim Sharpley this year will be to preside over the Main Stage for Podunk’s 22nd Annual Festival. He replaces Jim Beaver as stage Captain. Marti and Jim Beaver are returning to their homeland, North Carolina. Podunk is a good time to catch up with all your bluegrass friends and get some serious pickin’ done. We hope you will come out this season to see the brand new version of Still Pickin’. The members are Jim Sharpley, Dennis Sheridan and Pat MacDonald. You’ll recognize some of the old tunes and there will be plenty new one ones too. Stop by the stage and say hello.
