About J. Gervin

"See Y'all Soon" J. Gervin's debut solo album released 7/31/18. Digitally available everywhere!

Smooth vocals, edgy delivery, charismatic presence, hot instrumentals, and relatable substance. These are all qualities captured by the artist, J. Gervin. He has a dynamic ability to reach various subgenre listeners of Hip-Hop, such as alternative, jazzy, club bangers, new school, just to name a few.
Lyrical wordplay from this southern artist is what sets him apart from the mass of artists who have stemmed from the digital age of music. Finding his unique sound has come with time; spending his days as an adolescent freestyling with friends and singing classic oldies with his mom.
During his teen years he became accustomed to the “dirty south” style of music where music slowed down and looped timing with crossfade effects (chopped & screwed) was prevalent, using his time learning different DJ softwares to find his musical niche. As he entered his sophomore year in high school, he began recording low-budget songs and burned these songs to CD-Rs for a few of his friends. This quickly thrust him into the ranks of fellow rappers at his high school (in 2002, when smartphones were a mere thought for the future and access to social media was almost absolutely impossible). His high school mixtapes are as follows:
Spring 2003 – Too Hot To Be Bullsh**in’
Summer 2003 – 830 Stunnas
Spring 2004 – On Top Of My Grind
After 3 underground CDs in high school and several live performances at parties and independent shows, he left his hometown Gonzales to pursue an education and play basketball at Texas Lutheran University at Seguin, TX in the fall of 2005.
A life-threatening accident would sideline his athletic career, he attended TLU for one year (creating a rap group named “Grade A Gangstas” which released one mixtape entitled “We Don’t Play” - 2006) then decided that the college life was not for him and went into the work force and independent entrepreneurship.

During the course of the next few years, he would release a series of mixtapes with the group known as “3_Deep”, based out of Gonzales, TX. The mixtapes are as follows:
Fall 2006 – 3_Deep: The Beginning
Winter 2007 – For Tha Smalltowns Vol. 1
Spring 2007 – Got 3_Deep?
Summer 2007 – 3_Deep: Tha Compilation
Summer 2008 – For Tha Smalltowns Vol. 2
Summer 2008 would be the last people would hear from J. Gervin for quite some time. His close relationship with his grandma and her failing health would serve as a catalyst to push him into going back and continue his collegiate education.
He was accepted to Victoria College in Victoria, TX in the fall of 2009, majoring in business management and also walked on to the men’s basketball team. He earned academic honors and was Team Captain & Male Athlete of the Year for the 2010-2011 season. He was offered an opportunity to play at NCAA-DIII Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX but turned it down in order to be closer to his family and to pursue his passion in music.
In 2011, J. Gervin assisted with the creation of the “Toe Dropping!” movement which can be simply explained: A way for anyone to have access to an outlet of people with similar or different backgrounds, all looking to connect with people across a vast array of markets and interests.
Since then, he has been featured on the following mixtapes:

Summer 2012 – The Very Bottom
