About Jah Bess

Papines' Finest Roots Singer

Jah Bless (formerly known as Jah Blemz) born Rick Alvergo Bennett, incarnated on October 21, 1973 in Papine, St. Andrew, Jamaica. He grew up in Papine, an area heavily populated by run-away slaves and free communities at the turn of the century. Jah Bless always gravitated towards music as a youth and voluntarily performed at children's birthday parties of his neighborhood friends. During his adolescence at the age of 13, he met Clifton George Bailey Ill known today as "Capleton", "Father Moses" or "The Prophet" and they began to reside at the same residence. They became close like brothers and began to par, growing into music as writers and performers.
Jah Bless's older brother was a Ras Tafari, and grew up in his teenage years surrounded by the culture, His older brother used to go next door where many Rases would gather to cook and reason; Jah Bless grew there amongst them. Capleton is actually the one who anointed him with the name Jah Bless and as the scripture says, "Who Joh Bless, No Man Curse". Capleton brought him to 10 Mile Bull Bay aka Bo-bo Hill, where they spent time amongst ones and ones. Jah Bless always holds high respect for Bobo Shanti's because of many mystic experiences he had while at the Foundation.
Jah Bless's first 45 was with Collie Buddz on Bobby Digital Sound called "Give Me The Love In the Morning". At age 25, Jah Bless went on his first stage show in Orlando, Florida in the United States of America, with Capleton. After returning to Jamaica, he began to perform at stage shows in almost every parish in Jamaica. Shortly thereafter, Jah Bless started recording music at David House Productions, which was originally located in Papine. Later on, when Sizzla Kalonji became a reggae force, David House began collaborating with Judgement Yard and Chop Chop Productions. He worked closely with Hon. John Marcus t and they created many great tunes including his biggest tune, "Poor Man Cry".
His musical inspiration is Dennis Brown. "He made me want to write my own songs and play with lyrics and melodies", Jah Bless learned to write lyrics based on the rhythm and melody of each song. You can still see Jah Bless perform at major stage shows, mainly in Jamaica. His music is all over YouTube with dynamic sounds such as "Call On Me", as well as his current smash "Only For You" G4 Riddim, produced by his Brother...
