The ethno jazz returns to save us

Helpful

A harmonious experience that, despite not being an exact reflection, the ethnical memories of its components does not convey a credibility that is difficult to match, a brilliant kaleidoscope of sound, an elegant and fluid harmonica, this piece is a gift to our ears. With a start with aromas of the most authentic ethno jazz, we will see flashes of Mulatu Astatke the great Ethiopian musician that seduce us incialment, when everything makes us think that the road will be easy, the theme, faces are solvency to the Hispanic roots, An incessant didgeridoo forces us to forget what seemed a well-deserved rest and remembering that maybe next road will not be so easy, in the end you have the sensation of having passed through 2 times sonic landscapes of Africa, Asia and Oceania. When everything falls into the technological darkness, the most absurd immediacy, you can breathe, everything is good again, the ethno jazz returns to save us.

Comin & Going a great band! Although every track is interesting and fun, track #4 of the album "Xpressed Impressions" "Three Steps Are Not Enough" is by far my favorite. It's a polyrhythm 4 over 3 including a flamenco-guitar and other eclectic instruments and sounds make the album a collection of songs that can be listened to over and over agin' !

Different and sophisticated.

An effective combination of didgeridoo, percussion, vocals and flamenco guitar that produces a strangely intriguing and captivating rhythmic soundscape that leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting to hear some more. I could imagine this as part of a festival performance with it's wild brushstrokes of sound on a musical canvas. Not for everyone - but for those who love something different and unusual with a taste of the exotic thrown in - this could very well be just the thing.

Poly Rhythmic Latin Jazz Song Con Sabor

Helpful

Comin & Goin are a tight group of talented musicians that take their instrumental music In a sophisticated direction with their energetic piece Three Steps Are Not Enough. With a driving bassline accented by a synth sample and nice straight eighth notes percussion pattern, it leads well in the Latin flavors of the song. Developing from the initial feel of a strong combination of ¾ and 4/4 time signatures, it is a well devised feel for modern jazz and even more so for modern Flamenco. This becomes evident when the well-executed flamenco guitar solo takes over, then also nice solos from both flute and sax. The sax takes some extra time to develop a solo section possibly inspired by Argentine saxophone icon Gato Barbieri, weaving in and out of rhythms and melodies with an edgy growl. Percussion keep the groove down well and it feels nice as a modern Latin jazz song. The overall arrangement is nice and a few little vocal drops remind us that this is contemporary and not out of touch with modern pop. I look forward to hearing more form this talented group.

Excellent combination of 4 versus 3. It creates a powerful tension that takes at least 3 steps to resolve. The guitar solo was an excellent treat and each of the soloist added to the power of the piece. This is a very earthy piece with some unexpected turns and of course excellent musicianship.

It's a shame that people in today's world don't understand this type of genre like I did in the 70's when it was hip. People can't follow the 4 over 3 beat, much less 'see' pass their own noses when it comes to music like this. It's 'too' advanced for most people anyway. One has to have an ear for it to be able to follow it. You guys are fantastic, and I admire all your talents filling in all the spaces in between the grooves. Everyone is busy in his own way and it sounds, 'Great'! Good Luck in your Music adventure, my friends! ~ Gizzmow, in Bonham, Texas....

Comin & Goin brings us Three Steps Are Not Enough, a polyrhythmic 4 over 3 piece which exercises both the mind and the spirit in its adventurous and textural journey through time. To the listener this is at a plain higher than most would be exposed to. To the producer there is much praise to be given to both the passion of the playing as well as the architectural approach to the engineering. The instrumentation builds on and around itself and in the aural sense the many pulsations interwoven are sublime in nature. To the analytical side of things the who mix gives the false impression of being over compressed, at least that is what it looks like on the meters. But this is a deception because the many rhythms of the instrumentation all combine to give the latency of the meters a very still and yet frenetic look as they barely move but move torsionally. But because you can hear the breathing within the saxophone and the various strikes of the percussion that a great deal of dynamic characteristics are maintained.

Funkey, rich and rhythmic!

I really love the polyrhythmic feel. I also greatly appreciate the variety of instrumental tones you utilize here. At times i am not sure what instrument or combination of instruments is making a particular sound. I find this highly intriguing. It forces me to pay close attention. The flamenco guitar entrance is well thought, and drives the piece forward. At some point during the sax solo, I wanted to hear a change in modality or chord structure. In the beginning, the complexity of rhythms and the unique instrumentation do well to keep a listeners attention; but later on I wanted to hear some sort of change which might propel the tenor sax lead to another level. Very nice overall!

Very interesting introduction to another facet of Jazz music for me. Got to love the Sax. This is a well crafted song title with all the musical components where they should be. The instrumentation is on point which delivers a crisp encounter with your musical prowess. It is a pleasure to hear musicians who are in tune with their craft. The author must have a monument erected in his/her behalf as this is presented flawlessly. Kudos to all who brought this work to fruition. Would love to hear more offerings.

I was delighted to learn about the group Comin & Goin! If you love the fusion of different genres together as I do you will definitely enjoy listening to Three Steps Are Not Enough. This successfully fuses jazz saxophone, drums and flute with didgeridoo, unusual scatting, gongs and other middle eastern sounds! Try it, you will definitely like it!

Ok, I love jungle music, and I love sax driven jazz. Yeah, who ever said you had to change chords? This cut has everything you need to take a trip around the world. It plays above the normal realm of human consciousness. We are not hearing people here. Great Work.

A complete surprise! What a welcome and well thought out production. Long form jazz pieces are hard to keep interesting. In this multi discipline age, where we have so many musical selections and styles to choose from, it is hard to hear something fresh and new. You have achieved that with this piece. The melody lines and solos are a delight and the marriage of musical styles are quite impressive. Outstanding work by all the soloists. My only critique (and only a personal preference), I would have loved to hear a more natural bass sound. But from the percussion, drums, horns and little vocal piece towards the end, this song does not disappoint in keeping interest, musicality and just enjoyment. Bravo!
