Rockin gospelLove this one by Trevor!! Kind of a red dirt country vibe. I enjoy many different styles, as long as the message is good. This song delivers for sure. I look forward to exploring more of Trevors work.
IN MY OPINIONGreetings Trevor. Thank you for allowing me to review your work, I count it an honor to be included in such a task. My hat is off to you and anyone willing to step out and share their gift, talent and love of music to the public. Be it a musician, singer, song writer, actor and so-on. I myself, via 40 some years of experience in the fields, on the road, in the studio, radio, TV, video, and management, consider myself to be a seasoned musician, singer, song writer, studio-sound tech/engineer/ owner/operator, stage manager, find it sometimes hard/difficult and perhaps not even fair to sit in a seat, voicing My Opinion concerning another's creative efforts. Especially in certain genres of music I am not all that familiar with concerning very important elements that make up and meet the required standards to justify the various levels of ratings and grades. So, in saying ALL that, I will limit myself to MY Opinion concerning the quality of the work according to My ears, and the standards I have been familiarized with thru-out the years. I hold to the old - saying " Beauty Is In The EAR of The Beholder ... LOL. The sound quality of the recording over-all is very crisp and bright and clear, I really enjoyed the message and energy in this song.Think about a music solo break to step away from vocals for a short period in future works. Vocals are smooth and natural, sort of - down to earth as they say, and extremely peaceful. The mix levels let me know who was still in charge of this song. Very easy to sit back and listen to. I mean no offense in any part, I myself take all feedback and use it as a tool toward my next project. I pray you feel the same way. Either way, I say to you, keep doing what you do, keep kicking and enjoying what you do. I tell folks all the time for many years. When it stops being FUN, then it's time to stop, and stand back and think about what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, what we and others are getting out it. Is it what we want, and how we want it. IF NOT. what are willing to do from there? Thank you again for asking MY OPINION. Johnny
A breath of fresh airTrevor Toews' recording of "You Can Take Him at His Word" is a whole new sound for this artist. Not that I've heard everything Trevor has recorded, but all the songs I have heard are acoustic, down-home, front-porch country gospel. With "You Can Take Him at His Word," Trevor and his band step out into up-tempo, back-beat country retro rock and roll. Reminds me of a very understated version of "Taking Care of Business." The band is tight and talented, even if it is way too quiet for this style of music. I would love to hear a break in the lyrics that allows one or two of the musicians to step forward and play a solo. This not only showcases the guys who are backing the lead singer, it also gives the listener a break from the lyrics, to sort of absorb the message they have already heard, and refresh their attention for the next wave of words. Also for this style of music, I think you want to sing the lead vocal with more "attitude". Trevor is still singing in a sweet and gentlemanly way, because that's who he is. But I smile when I think about Mick Jagger singing these same words, don't you? Speaking of the words, as a songwriter, I can't help but notice, these lines don't rhyme, and that's fine with me. One of the songs I wrote years ago, that I'm still proud of to this day, didn't have a single rhyme. Here in Texas, we have had a song at #1 on the Christian chart for 12 straight weeks, in which the chorus does not rhyme. I just want to point out that the words don't have to rhyme, and occasionally writing a non-rhyming song that feels right anyway is a great exercise in creativity. Breaking taboos has an honored place in all creative arts. Trevor and his band have really turned a page here. Is this the start of a whole new chapter? Stay tuned!

You Can Take Jesus at His WordI don't know all the instruments but the blend harmonizes perfectly. I love this song because you can dance to it, Texas Two Stepping all through it! A bit of Rockabilly sound to it. Instantly I felt this is a song for a Sing-A-Long Concert. This would be great for VBS too. Great lyrics, A witness of the Gospel of Grace and His Covenant of Peace. The story of His Life in a song. You got a great teaching ministry in your songs and praise. Thanks Trevor
Good MusicThis song has great lyrics , a great message , and I really like the tune. Also you're doing a really great job at getting into the song. Like I said great message. That you can take Jesus at His Word!;
Deep bassYou need to lower your voice and do your own deep voice overdubs to provide textures and layers to your records....your back ground singer or overdub is getting drowned out due to the voice frequency being the same.
Not badI believe you can do better with time and the right studio, otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music otherwise great music
YOU CAN TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD- REVIEWWonderful uptempo christian catchy tune. A very lively, happy and gospel sharing lyrical joyful message in one moving ride of upbeat rhythms ans and vocals. Nice on the vocals, harmonies. Beautiful convictions within the message. Excellent arrangement. Great Job Trevor. Blessings to a true strong soldier of the Almighty. Love & Peace.
Great songI like the grove of this song. I the lyric is very good. I believe this song would be a lot better if the engineer would have wrapped the music around the vocal, to give a a fuller sound. But over all this song has potential to be with a few tweaks. May God bless you as continue to spread the word fo God......
Wonderful song with a great messageI always enjoy listening and reviewing Trevor's music. The lyrics are always encouraging and well written. The song is very catchy and easy to listen to. I can tell Trevor really enjoys ministering through music. I can tell he is smiling when he is recording his music. Keep up the wonderful work.
Take him at his wordThis Song is preaching the gospel and that is ultimately what the gospel is all about whether in song or literary form. It has a down home folksy feel, and a repetitive nature where one can join in and take him at his Holy word.
