About TARABU

TARABU is a dynamic Jazz and World Music instrumental group from the Cape Winelands of South Africa. The group is lead by saxophonist & clarinetist Francois le Roux, and often features Lucas Heinen on piano & piano accordion, Philip Malan (guitars & loop station) and/or Byron Carr (guitars & bass). Depending on the event, special guest musicians are featured on bass, drums and voice. All musicians are highly accomplished performers and composers, each in their own right, and as a band they aim to fuse some of the essential elements of Jazz and World Music. For their original music they draw inspiration from a wide variety of music genres, such as Gypsy Jazz, Latin Jazz, Swing, African Jazz, Waltzes, Tangos, Funk, the Blues, Folk music from the Middle-East and Europe, as well as some commercial styles. Experimentation, creativity and skill are a few of the key ingredients in this mix.
