BIO

How do you build a bluegrass band of exceptional talent?

It all started when Rich and Glynda Jones partnered with Kenny Alhona.

Rich Jones grew up in a small farming community in Western Michigan. As he served in Vietnam and later became an insurance agent, he learned commitment, versatility and attention to detail. Now he applies all those traits to playing the mandolin and managing the band.

Kenny Alhona was born and raised in Virginia and developed his sense of constancy and tenacity as a career law enforcement officer. His stability and steadfastness provide the perfect qualities needed for rhythm guitar.

Glynda Jones hails from a small town north of Memphis, TN. Her diligence, perseverance, and impeccable sense of timing came in handy as she managed and directed her own ballroom dance studio—all qualities that blend to make her a great bass player.

Every bluegrass band needs a fiddle player, and we have an extraordinary one in Gary Patten. His father handed him a violin as a young lad in a Detroit suburb. He and his cousins formed the Patten Trio and played for two years on the Happy Hour Club—a show on Detroit’s TV station WXYZ. The Patten Trio toured Michigan military bases doing USO shows with Danny Thomas and Frances Langford. Later, Gary served in Okinawa, where his band played weekly on the Far East Network. He continued playing with different bands and symphonies as he built his career as an engineer, and finally as an owner of a fast food franchise. When Gary plays the fiddle, you know he’s the real deal.

Who would expect a banjo player to come from an Italian community in Philadelphia? That’s where we got Bill Canna—but only after he’d applied his meticulous technological mind to a successful career as an engineer. His attention to detail is a vital part of our band.

Finally, we brought in a lead singer who grew up singing with her family in
Missouri. As a teenager, Angel Parrish competed in international competitions for vocals and piano. After getting a degree in communications specializing in voical music and performance speech, she went on to teach voice to several award-winning soloists, groups, and choirs. Angel left teaching to spend the next decade travelling the country for ministry. Her ministry included singing in churches, campmeetings and conferences all over the eastern half of the (expired link). She has recorded seven Gospel CDs; her most recent is an all Bluegrass Gospel album made with Still Kickin’. Her original song, “Daddy’s Closet,” was recorded with Still Kickin’ and has been released as a single on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby.

Our band has been playing together since 2009. We’ve seen very few personnel changes over the years, resulting in a group of excellent musicians that blend beautifully together. Since we added Angel on the lead vocals, our quality has surpassed even our own expectations. We have an even greater following and are keeping a very busy local schedule. We are confident that the superiority of our sound will be a great bonus to the reputation of your next festival or event!

Still Kickin’ has performed in a variety of venues. We have opened for named bands, like Monroe Crossing and Rhonda Vincent. We’ve played numerous town festivals including McIntosh and Groveland, FL. We also sponsor our own local shows, usually to sell out audiences. And we are the host band for the Bluegrass Performance Club—a weekly 2-hour show for residents of The Villages, where the average attendance is 300. We have a solid group of fans that are all potential attendees at your festival or event.

We are available for all types of events, large and small. You will find that we always go the extra mile to make your event successful and memorable. Listen to our music, watch our videos, and then give us a call. We can’t wait to partner with you!
