About Sergio Arango & La Lampara Oculta
La Lampara Oculta is a one man band that saw the light in the early 90's after many experiences with different bands. Sergio Arango, a musician, graphic designer and plastic artist born in 1965 in Caracas, Venezuela, leads the project. He's been writing poetry, songs, making music and drawing since his early teens. He started playing the bass guitar at 14 but previously he already played the guitar and the cuatro (a four string instrument from the same family as ukelele, tiple canario and the guitar itself). His curiosity about every instrument he had in his hands led him to learn how to play, in addition to the guitar, bass or cuatro, the Indian sitar, the mandolin, piano or drums, and venture into different styles. This curiosity remains unaltered.
At the age of 15 he forms his first rock’n’roll band: Me-109. In 1981 started the band Alianza that was active until 1986, the same year he started studying Graphic Design. Then, in 1987 he formed Compañia Anónima with old band mates, a cover band that kept playing together until 1989. From 1989 until 1991 he played bass guitar with some jazz and salsa bands until he moved to Spain that year. Then, early 1992, he conceptualized La Lámpara Oculta. Since then, he played with different bands, mostly rocknroll and beatle cover bands while working on his own material and continued his work as a graphic designer and painting and drawing.
His first record work is PSICOGENESIS, an album with 18 songs written, played and produced by himself and released in November 2020 with an eclectic sound where you can notice the influences that have marked the style of someone who refuses to be pigeonholed into a single genre.
