Classic Jazz Revisited

The mood is set right away with swirling instrumentation and complex patterns. The vibe is definitely classic jazz. However Sal La Rocca takes it many steps further with a modern twist on the genre.

Great Jazz

Very Very smooth...Reminds me of Return to Forever's more moody stuff. I love your chord structure. The up-right bass and clarinet is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

The essence of a jazz lounge.

I have had this on repeat for the last 20mins as I do with any new piece that I choose to listen to. I throughly enjoy the movement from a smoke filled jazz lounge to a rushed side street, as if the writer was moving from their starting venue and now on to the next as the mood swings to a more memorable montage of plucks and snare shuffles. At the end of the day this leaves the eyes heavy with a sultry smoothness.

Review of Sal La Rocca’s “Stand Point” By Vinnie V.

The song has a very professional sound to it overall. It is a classic example Of a jazz ballad performed by a four piece jazz group. Sounds like music You might encounter while strolling in to a jazz club or lounge on a Thursday Evening in any large metropolitan city. The recording was done very well and captured All the nuances one would expect to hear from a small group in an intimate setting. The musicianship appears to be very accomplished as well as well rehearsed. The groups performance is spot on as I didn’t hear any intonation problems and /or Any entrance or exit errors. However I did feel a lack of continuity in the melody due to The numerous isolated interval leaps in which the melody was composed of . That being said , I believe a group as talented as this one could easily lure their listeners ear and bring them in closer having composed a more memorable, tonal and, melodic yet restrained melody for such a pleasant set of chord changes. (Example John Coltrane’s Jazz standard “Niama”) Overall very good performance and song! Thank you for allowing me to review your song. Sincerely, Vinnie V. http://vinniev.webs.com Good Luck ! A fine example of jazz music, musicianship and intuitive composition.

The sophisticated tones of a fine and rare, mature wine that must be sipped slowly so that every innuendo of its subtleties can be absorbed and fully appreciated. This is a fine example of jazz music, musicianship and intuitive composition. The composition reminds me of the French impressionistic movement (1870-1920) when artist and composers explored ideas, colours and motives just outside the fringes of realism. I think of composers like Debussy and Ravel and painters like Monet and Renoir - The same sensitive treatment of subtle motives, ideas, tones and harmonies is present in this piece of music. I love the introduction of this piece; the bass with just a few notes introduces the sax that plays a simple but beautiful motive gingerly with the bass answering in complimentary phrases. The piano joining later with (lovely arpeggios) embellishments of the original theme that leads into a brilliant bass solo that explores new composition ideas punctuated by the drum and piano (The drums are exceptional in this piece - although it does have a solo it supports and punctuates the whole piece perfectly). The piano then returned to the forefront with the original theme but with brighter and more playful tones. The sax returns to the mix in the original melancholy mode and the piano again does a little of its arpeggio treatment (in a minor key) and the piece ends... “Suspended” and unexpectedly. Wonderful music. I thank you all for creating it. (I also like the use of syncopation in the piece)

This lovely composition sand point has a lovely feeling and a very moving track Sa La rocca has created a great balled in the Mingus mode and i love the track great sound and the musician are playing really lovely together what i enjoy about this track is there is only a piano solo which runs really nice with the mode of the composition, the drums and and Bass seem to be locked into the form of the composition which creates a lovely feeling like the feeling of a sea breeze, the horns seem to be floating on this feeling, i must say i did enjoy the way the drumming supports the the solos and his percussion feel and hes ad a lovely swing so i would give this track a high rating ita very warm and well put together track and if this is just one track then iam sure the album must be really great some my rating is 4 plus and i hope Sal La Rocca has a chance to be heard by many Jazz artist Kevin Haynes Grupo elegua

Great tunes; soothing jazz

I like that style of jazz, very much. It's obvious that Sal has been working with the best of players. If this is one of his compositions here, I have to say that he is very talented as a composer, as well as being a great player. It sounds to me like he's influenced by Monk, Bill Evans, Charlie Mingus, and well - the greats! Well done, Sal - I eagerly look forward to your next recording.... go Belgium!

Ahhhhhh.....I have found my new backing band. I absolutely love this. You guys are great. Love this smooth swingin tune...with some excellent solo instrumentation. Love in particular the slap bass solo and piano work. Drums are very well played. Everyone giving each other "room to play" their instrument. Well done indeed.
