Keep Your Head Up

Intro - It took me about 35 seconds to figure out what the time signature was in the intro because it sounds like there is a timing issue with the drums, keys, and bass. I finally figured that the song is in 4/4 timing. The second thing that caught my attention way The Mix. The mix sounds Sparx for the most part. I would pan the background vocals wider and bring the lead vocal more up to the front. Whenever you use sampling in a DAW, make sure you quantize the midi data so that your performances can sound tighter in the mix. I love words and melody to the vocal hook! The overall lyric, in my opinion, is really good. To summarize my conclusion, if you fix the timing issue, pan your background vocals wider and bring your lead vocal upfront, your song will sound much better. Keep up the good work Rico! Nice message in this song

The lyrics in this song is encouraging and positive. I think your vocal style and harmony is very beautiful. Nice vonality. I would have chosen a different intro. I would have placed a bridge in the middle of the song to give it a slight variation. Slight variation will add to the overall song and give it excitement and would prevent the track from sounding the same all the way through. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Excellent!

I'm really feeling this song, I love the style and the melody. This song reminds me of the flow of the 70's, something really missing in today's music. Good luck my brother God is on our side. Amen

Great vocals presented.

I would definitely say the background vocals and leads are on point, harmonies and pitch. Possibly a little variations in tones and rifts (not too many) on the lead vocals so there is distinct difference between the background vocals making the body of the song to not seem repetitive. The drum track is not doing the song justice, please change. Once you do those subtle changes I believe you will have a song with great potential. The lyrics of the song has a great message behind it as well. Overall keep writing and producing songs.

Keep Your Head Up Review

Good morning Rico. I really enjoyed the message of your song, as well as your voice and the harmonies. I felt quite unstable at first because the synthesizer, bass, and drums are not playing the same rhythm, so I found myself floundering while trying to find a groove to get into. The end seemed to be rather abrupt, with no musical resolution. It sounded as if there may have been more, but . . . there was no more. ;( Some of the words and phrases you chose were at times a bit choppy. I know this can be hard to resolve, but a good rhyming book has helped me shorten, or lengthen, the words and/or phrases that I need to make the whole song flow better. Keep up the great work brother. May the Lord continue to bless you and guide you in getting the good news out in song. Trev. :)

Keep your head up especially singing.

Vocals and lyrics great and the harmonies coming in. rescue the song I just can't reconcile to the music the song the timing is syncopated and doesn't seem to me to be going anywhere let alone up. will say the bass line had a little promise but I would develop the piano line and draw all other instruments back. But that's just imho. please keep going I love the harmonies that's what kept me listening.

Syncopated Perfection

Nice work especially on the lyrics and the melody. This song was encouraging and helped me understand to going no matter how hard things may get or seem. This was definitely a right on time tune.

In MY Opinion

Greetings, Thank you for choosing me to review your work, I count it an honor to be included in such a task. My hat is off to you and anyone willing to step out and share their gift, talent and love of music to the public. Be it a musician, singer, song writer, actor and so-on. I myself, via 40 some years of experience in the fields, on the road, in the studio, radio, TV, video, and management, consider myself to be a seasoned musician, singer, song writer, studio-sound tech/engineer/ owner/operator, stage manager, find it sometimes hard/difficult and perhaps not even fair to sit in a seat, voicing My Opinion concerning another's creative efforts. Especially in certain genres of music I am not all that familiar with concerning very important elements that make up and meet the required standards to justify the various levels of ratings and grades. So, in saying ALL that, I will limit myself to MY Opinion concerning the quality of the work according to My ears, and the standards I have been familiarized with thru-out the years. I hold to the old - saying " Beauty Is In The EAR of The Beholder ... LOL. The sound quality of the recording over-all is very crisp and bright and clear, I really enjoyed the vocal energy. Vocals are smooth and natural, sort of - down to earth as they say, and extremely peaceful. The mix levels let me know who was still in charge of this song. Very easy to sit back and listen to. Enjoyed the message in the song. I mean no offense in any part, I myself take all feedback and use it as a tool toward my next project. I pray you feel the same way. Either way, I say to you, keep doing what you do, keep kicking and enjoying what you do. I tell folks all the time for many years. When it stops being FUN, then it's time to stop, and stand back and think about what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, what we and others are getting out it. Is it what we want, and how we want it. IF NOT. what are willing to do from there? Thank you again for asking MY OPINION. Johnny

Sincere with strong message, but never seems to find a groove

Rico Dawson's recording of "Keep Your Head Up" is a message of encouragement to persevere in faith to pursue your dreams in spite of obstacles. I believe the songwriter is sincere, and I would like to encourage him to continue praising God in his own unique way. The songwriting will only improve with time and practice. I like the gentle start, with just keys and kick drum with cymbal, and the sky-soaring harmony vocals. The recording suffers from some technical problems, most notably too much bass in the mix, and a not-quite-in-synch feel between the bass and the percussion. Feels like the song never quite settles into a groove. Keep developing your art, in praise to our beloved God!

Very encouraging song

Helpful

The instrumental intro to the song was a little confusing, but when the vocals started the song really picked up. Rico did a great job with the lead vocals and blended well with the background vocals. The lyrics are wonderful. I was thoroughly encouraged by listening to the song.
