Carlene “Ra-Shi” Desilva’s Biography
Music pulsates through my veins …my true passion …my real love commented Carlene “Ra-Shi” Desilva. This cultural, reggae singer and song writer was born March 17th, 1978 in a small rural community of Hope Field in Portland Jamaica. Her love for music was realized from a tender age when she joined the church choir and learnt to strengthen her vocal cords, whilst, understanding the concept of working in a group, which ultimately predicated her need to perform as a duet later in life. Her ambitions exceeded the environs of the small Hope Field community and she decided to spread her wings to be able to realize her dreams, thus all roads led to Kingston - the hub and heartbeat of the musical industry.
She now ventured professionally in the Gospel arena, since she was already intimately involved with this genre of music, having met a producer at a Seventh day Adventist church. Ra-Shi continued to follow her passion at varying levels whether doing background vocals in studio or on stage with the likes of artistes:- Robert and Jenieve Bailey, George Banton, Marvia Providence and many others. In addition, she backed varying artistes while performing on the JCDC festivals. She launched out a duet career where she did an album –“Take back the love” performing in the Cayman islands and Bahamas. In 2011 she once again completed a second album called “Touch Down” whereby she toured varying small islands – Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines to promote its release.
Ra-Shi not been “shy” with her talent decided to share her sweet melodic vocals with the rest of the world and embrace the world of Reggae and Culture in her music. The studio is now her new home where she recorded her first single “Hope”. Ra-Shi has a great talent and intends on taking her music to a different level not yet visualized or verbalized in the music fraternity. She is presently pursuing a degree in Videography which is complimentary to her decided career path.
Her mantra is, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. She is now on her way to evolving into the next great musical stalwart to emerge from the corridors of Jamaica.
