The character of Peter the fisherman, disciple and apostle has always fascinated me, and one story has always tickled my sense of curiosity and humour. Impetuous he may have been, but at least he acted on the incredible scene of seeing Jesus walking on the water whilst the rest of them only looked on and stayed safely in the boat. The song ‘You’ve got to’ is a reflection on how we can react when we experience Jesus do something in our lives and not be content to stay comfortably in whatever boat we may be in. In his book first published in 2001, ’If you want to walk on water you’ve got to get out of the boat’, John Ortberg encourages the reader to reflect on the incredible potential that awaits every follower of Jesus outside of their comfort zone. This song is my contribution to encouraging us to get out of whatever safe, comfortable boat we are journeying in as we follow Jesus. Cheers Peter
