Mr. Zay / About
Hosea, also known to many as “Mr. Zay” is a gifted and talented singer, songwriter, and composer who hails from Hamilton Ohio.
Anointed to play the piano, keyboard, organ, and drums, Hosea’s passion for music is a natural pleasure. By the age of 10 Hosea embraced his genuine love for music which cultivated his ability to compose songs at the age of fifteen. In 2006, Hosea recorded and released his first CD entitled “Bread of Life.” With much success he subsequently released “The Mr. Zay Project” in 2008 and “I Need A Word” in 2010. Each album was released under the Hamilton, Ohio based Grafted In Label, operated by Eugene Meadows.
Hosea has served as an opening performer on stage for many of today’s artist to include Rance Allen and Trin-i-tee 5:7, along with several other local and national contemporary artists. One of his most rewarding accomplishments during his career has been performing with Terry “Zap” Troutman of Zapp Band. As younger sibling of the late Roger Troutman, Terry “Zap” Troutman’s interest in Hosea’s talent led to Hosea singing lead vocals of major hits such as “Computer Love,” “I Wanna Be Your Man,’ and “Keep Dancing.” Terry and Hosea also produced each other’s CD projects; “The Mr. Zay Project” and “The Terry “Zap” Troutman Project.”
Also contributing to Hosea’s success is his lovely wife Maria who serves as his biggest fan and inspiration. She works closely with PSAJJ Management piloting his career direction. Sons Hosea Jr., Ke’Von, Xavier and Zaydon are his pride and joy. While following in their father’s footsteps, each of them are also very talented musicians whom are dedicated to the craft.
Hosea’s vision and desire is to create urban music that renders a positive message. His focus is a style of music that touches the hearts of and ministers to those who may not typically be drawn to the gospel otherwise. He truly believes that the lyrics of a song nourish the soul, no matter the genre.
