#2 étrange sensation Partie 1

EP Partir Seul

Song Reviews

Subtile Etrangeté

Helpful

Superbe composition qui commence tout en douceur dans un style légèrement "psyché" puis s'envole dans un riff de guitare plus rock. On apprécie le côté vocal qui se marie d'une excellente manière avec ce riff puissant.

Theatrical Rock Galore !!

Helpful

The gates (or doors) of the spirit is a French group dishing out prog-rock, and songs that can easily be associated with the "alternative" scene. The song I listened to and enjoyed much is called "strange sensation (part 1)". This is a well written and well performed piece of theatrical rock" dramatic lines, power chords and touches of opera music accompanying dramatic (at times, overly so) vocals that are melodic and full of drama. Numerous elements borrowed from the domains of opera and musicals are integrated in this song in a matter that is both intriguing and challenging. All in all it is an "off the beaten path" musical piece that is worth your attention. I will be following this group to hear more of their work.

STRANGE SENSATION

Helpful

OK FIRST THINGS FIRST I DONT UNDERSTAND FRENCH SO I AM UNABLE TO COMMENT ON THE LYRICS AND THEIR MEANING THEY APPEAR TO BE RECORDED WELL WITH GOOD PRODUCTION I HAVE TO SAY THE SYNTHESISER SOUNDS THAT THESE GUYS HAVE GOING ON ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY AND THEIR APPEARS TO BE GOOD LIGHT AND SHADE AND MUSICAL DIVERSITY WITH A HAUNTING FEEL PERVASIVE THROUGH OUT THE SONG IT DOES REMIND ME OF SOME OF THE BETTER EIGHTIES SYNTH POP

Australia, NEWCASTLE

of the various sensations

Les Portes de l'Esprit brings us étrange sensation Partie 1, a pop rock with 80's synth power to be sure. The song has its talking points, its instrumental points and its hook points, all in their proper position. It is a song of formula design but does not have that song in a can effect. Being the song is in french I have no clue as to the lyrical meaning within the song but suffice it to say this song belongs on the charts as it is a quality effort. Well done.

In any language

Though I have very little command of the Spanish language I find that I do enjoy a lot of the more contemporary sounding bands and artists, Les Portes deI`Esprit would be a good example of draws to this music. This is a well produced track with a good brooding vibe about it. There would good soundtrack potential for this song.

Salut ! I would love to write this review in French, but unfortunately I haven't spoken or written in French for some time... So I will be very happy to say that this song resounded in me. It's very well harmonically constructed, I like the fact that you have mingled the voices to sound as Spirits calling from the other world, it really does create that atmosphere. Overall, it's a good alternative rock song to listen to!

Good song...weak opening

Helpful

Listening to the opening I must admit I wasn't impressed. The first 8 bars should be changed. The instruments are tight and the vocals are clean and in tune. This is a driving song literally. The opening is redone under the mid-song break and it works there much better. The only thing missing from this song is a recognizable chorus but perhaps that takes away from the "Etrange sensation"? Good job over-all. Keep up the good work!

Fun song.

I love listening to songs recorded that aren't in English. I can just focus on the music, the vocal quality and enjoy the music. That's exactly what happens with this song. I'm not big on all-electronic music - or at least how it sounds because I think there are too many options to record more realistic sounding songs, but this, somehow does work. The vocals are well placed and the songs is mixed well. I'll listen again! Good job.

French synth pop song rocks!

Helpful

I found this song quite interesting, in as much as I loved the subtlety of the synths, and the drone like feel to the song. The great harmonies and clear diction make up the rest of the songs structure along with fairly laid back drums. What I didn't like was the news report insert (or whatever it was), although I guess it must have been intrinsic to the song, but I would have tried to avoid it. It almost sounds as though they were trying to make a "turn around" more interesting. All in all, I enjoyed it, and would willingly recommend it to my francophone friends, of whom I have many. So well done Les Portes de Lo and keep making music!

Great!

This Song has a very interesting mix - experimental electronic sounds and rock music chords. The female and male voice work great together. All this makes a great dramatic atmophere. Good work and take care!

Pylone - Etrange Sensation

Helpful

Pylone's Etrange Sensation (Strange Sensation) utilizes excellent old school synth sounds and sampling to create a modern French take on early eighties English bands such as Joy Division and Magazine. My French language ability is not that hot but once the track began and beyond the fairly conventional rock guitar riff and bass drum back beat opening the track really hits its groove. It has a fantastic Dr. Who synth sound and the vocals are hauntingly different to the barrage of English sounds my audio world is attuned to. I really really enjoyed the spoken French sample in the middle of the track. Show your friends how internationally cool you are and add this to your play list. Vive la France !

Great track, well produced!

Helpful

I wish I could speak/understand French, would like to know what it is about. It kind of reminds of Rammstein, with use of sound clips and keyboards. I love the keyboards, adds a great atmospheric element. The effects on the vocals add to the overall feel. I would like a heavy guitar mix, I think the crunch of heavy distortion would make it better, but that is really a preference thing. Really nice sounding track, very well produced!
