Constructive Critique

I like what the content of the song is about, I like your voice, I like the guitar work . That all being said the one thing that stands out is the buzzing from the capo here and there, the chord changes on the guitar are not clean, you need to practice the chord changes more so it doesn't sound like you're fumbling for the chord. I do see that it says ( 1st take demo ) so that's a good thing but in all honesty, maybe you shouldn't post until the song is complete and not a take.....it would give you much more credibility. Just some advice from someone whose been in the business for 50 years and is very picky. Don't let me pickiness discourage you....." YOU CAN DO IT "

Wow!

I will formulate my review in the form of pros and cons so that you can get an idea of what I am hearing! Pros: The finger picking guitar work sounds awesome! I love to hear more folk artists finger picking songs. The complexity of the progression makes the song sound more unique and original than your typical folk song. The lyrics, "Sit back and let life unfold" really work for the songs melody and tone. I feel like this song has great potential to be formed into a professional recorded track. This being a rough track it sounds really good for being a first take demo! Your sound reminds me a lot of coldplay, and I love coldplay :) add some piano and you would be getting a cool sound addition. Cons: I struggle myself with wanting to get a song out there as quickly as possible. I have to restrain myself and remind myself that I want the first impression of a song to be the best it can be! I would like to hear this song again, but in the form of a mastered and finished track. Make sure the mastered track is played to a click track so that chord changes are made smoothly and that the song flows correctly. You have a great voice, use it! Pull off on the vocal re verb effects and focus on providing a clear simple tone to the song. When you record the next version focus on just recording the guitar to a click track and get it perfect. Once your guitar is solid focus on recording only your vocals. Burn it to a CD and listen to it for a bit and see where you can make changes. Sometimes a fresh ear the next day makes all the difference to find mistakes. Conclusion: I am giving this a 4 rating because I expect to hear a mastered version so that I can tag it with a 5. You should never sell yourself short. You make beautiful music make sure everyone hears your best take!

Flows like a waterfall

I like this, it has 'soul'. The delicate finger-picking establishes an evocative melodic backdrop for some thoughtful lyrics. Lovely harmonies when the second voice comes in. My recommendations on how to make it even better would be to shorten it. I know it's hard to discard lyrics we have worked on, but it's a tad too long as it is. And I would put some of your exisating lyris into a bridge section, to make us love the falling, cascading accompaniment even more. Overall, though - great potential.

great fingerpicking and melody

Listen to this song a few times, realize it's still a demo and a vert cool when at that. The poetry/lyrics are really well written and the melody/cadence is close to there. Just need a a little more work phrasing out bars but the depth is there. If I could make a suggestion, shorten the overall song. Find the best lines that explain the meaning and go with them and Chorus Just twice which could lead people into wanting to listen and play it over and over again possibly, around 4 Minutes max maybe. All in all really cool demo track.

Almost there!

I love the finger picking, guitar sounds real good, I am having a tough time trying to understand words. I think vocals have to be louder and more clearer. I think slowing down song a bit would let you get the words to fit better. I think you need a little more dynamics in song maybe vocally or musically. I think song is long and begins to drag on. If you shorten it and work out the vocals and backup vocals(timing) I think this song could be really special.

Easy Change

Helpful

Sam, your song 'Change' is easy to listen to and engage with.I very much like your finger style approach and the descending melody line keeps the song moving and maintains engagement with the listener ... I think an Eight bar bridge might be worth exploring just prior to the last chorus... This will help set up the final conclusion to the lyric in the story. Commendable effort Sam ... I look forward to hearing more.

That is a very well done song, plain and simple. I like the chords you use and the walk-downs.There's no over-production, it's just plain. I like that. I may have done a solo, but thats's me.

Your guitar sound is perfect for this genre. Martin? Well recorded and intonation is good. Your vocals are spot on and the harmony is a plus as well. Nice obscure lyrics that let the listener make some inferences. Nice to listen to the rhythmic flow of the guitar and the added melody notes in the instrumental break. Balance and mix is very good but the harmony part could come up a bit. Thanks for the nice tune.

It is by far one of the most thought provoking songs I have heard in a long time and it has a lot of potential! I know that this is a demo, so not everything is perfect, which is perfectly okay! I hope that I can hear this when it's been recorded in the studio because I love the song! 3.7 Is my rating because it is a demo but I would rate 5.0 in a heartbeat when it is no longer a demo because the lyrics are so powerful and awesome! Buen color de voz

Hola Sam.

Overall a very good song. It moves right along at a pleasing pace and is very easy to listen to all the way to the end. Very pleasing voice. I would like to hear the vocals much higher in the mix. You tell a nice story which is very important to me in writing. Keep up the great word I look forward to hearing more. Thank you for the opportunity to review. John

Beautiful Guitar Work

Beautiful guitar work, indeed, I would say it's the strongest aspect of the song. The vocals are good, but sometimes right at the end of a lyric they seem to almost trail off, I'm not sure if it's an issue of enunciation, it could be that at times you're trying to fit too much into one line (think about refining?). For the most part the flow of your words is good though. I think you could work on the timing with the secondary vocals, it seems a bit awkward. I would also like to hear those vocals more, this could be an issue of recording equipment, but I think her vocals could be more emphasized than they are right now; I think some good harmonization could be quite nice in this song.

My review

Thanks for sharing your track with me and looking forward toward some feedback positive or negative. First of all this isn't usually what I listen to in my music taste currently but always open to all types. I think that the song has beautiful lyrics and good choice to make it acoustic. Keep up the hard work and drive. Good luck with your future in music.
