About Curtis Marc

Born Curtis Mark Edwards to parents Agatha Edwards and Kelvin Sempel on beautiful twin isles of Trinidad and Tobago. Curtis spent his early years living with his father, on the northwest side of Trinidad. He attended primary school at Diego Martin Boy’s (expired link) where he joined the school choir. However, it was when he moved on to his secondary education at St. Anthony’s College that he really took an interest in all art-forms , from singing, to poetry, and painting. It was at the age of 13 that he really found a love for writing, filling his note books with poems up on poems. Curtis always said that this was his way of journaling the life of which he lived, whether he was happy, sad, or just thinking about both society’s perfections and imperfections. It wasn’t till Curtis was 18years old however, that he wrote his first song. A song that came about because of a bet made with his cousin Ria. After writing the song, Curtis became hooked, it was like he had found his calling. He would write almost everyday, on any topic that came into his path.
It was 2003, Curtis was approached by his childhood friend Dion Lewis. Dion had set up a meeting with a friend of his that worked for the Express Newspaper’s entertainment department, and asked Curtis to join him. It was at this meeting that Curtis’ journey in music really began. The entertainment editor after hearing a few acappella versions of both Dion and Curtis’ songs, decided that he would like to do a story on both of them called “the road to stardom”. What was supposed to be a one time deal, turned into a 6 month long series showing the struggles and successes of each friend as they made their way into the professional music world. It was during this period that Curtis met up with vocal trainer to the stars David Huggins, who then introduced him to then budding producer Dewayne Ector. It was with Dewayne that Curtis recorded his first ever professional release Rain a track that featured Burton Tony (uncle of Megan Trainor) the track though not popular in Trinidad, gained popularity with the New York caribbean community. Not to be discouraged in mid 2004 Curtis recorded song number 2 called “No More” a blend or soca with a somewhat rnb vibe. No more was heard during one of Curtis’ performances, by Jack Alexis. Jack, who then worked as a consultant for Caribbean Prestige foundation for the performing arts, loved the song. Jack presented the song to foundation founder William Munroe, along with the idea of creating a new genre for this type of (expired link) was Curtis and Jack that eventually named the new genre Groovey Soca. Later that year the first Groovey Soca competition was held, and Curtis under the sobriquet of Cutty made his first national appearance.
After he had lost his younger brother Kyle. Curtis, met up with another childhood friend in 2005. Sherron Jabari Charles, would get him involved with a then unknown studio called Studio53. One night, while hanging out at the studio Curtis sat down with Kwasi Robinson, as well as Angelo Pantin and started to pen a then untitled song, that was supposed to be a song for his brother. Thinking the song too sad however, Curtis decided to change the lyrics to what he knew his brother’s idea of love was. That song was Let’s Just. Let’s Just would go on to be one of the most popular songs in the country, making the way for Curtis’ appearance in the 2006 Groovey Soca semi finals. Later that year Curtis would also release a reggae track called All Alone, which to date is still one of the most popular reggae tracks on the airwaves. After releasing a few more songs in the years to follow. Curtis moved to the United States in 2008, where he got his Bachelors of Science in Recording Arts from FullSail University. He then proceeded to open his own production company and studio (Eklecktik LLC), and after years of silence Curtis has decided to challenge himself. Challenge his music and challenge his creativity. After his long hiatus he is back where he belongs in studio writing and recording. So stay tuned for this promises to be an amazing ride…
