As an artiste, I am constantly thinking about how I can be a 'ray of hope' in the pandemic darkness that shrouds this world. It has not been an easy year for many of us, and with the protocols that must be adhered, artistes in my country have not had a proper opportunity since 2019 to perform before a live audience. Thank God for online platforms such as Zoom and Facebook that have helped to soothe the sting that accompanies the lack of live performances. We have also had the opportunity - once finance could be procured - to record songs for our listeners. Therefore, it has not been a totally crippling year for the industry.
As a result, I have vowed I cannot let the year pass without releasing something for my fans. You see, Christmas is the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR for me, so I cannot allow Covid-19 to steal this from me, from us. Hence, tomorrow, December 5th, 2021 at 8 pm, I will be releasing a music video for my song entitled 'Charity of a Smile' that I had recorded since December 2017. I was always waiting for the right time to create a video for this song, and with all that we have gone through as a people, I believe that the time is now!
'Charity of a Smile' encourages us to do simple things to make the lives of others lavish. Based loosely on the biblical story found in Acts 4, which involved Peter, John, and the lame man who sat at the temple gate, the song speaks about giving what you have - as simple or as little as it be - to those who are less fortunate - specifically the children.
The pandemic has not only hit us mentally and physically, but also spiritually. Nevertheless, even though you may not be able to give money or luxurious presents this year, the charity or gift of a smile (or hug) can be just as memorable as money or lavish presents. Hence, we have no excuse. We can do something - even if it is small - to make the lives of those around us better. If it is one thing that Covid-19 has taught me, it is that life is too short to waste nursing grudges, bitterness, unforgiveness or emnity. So, let's vaccinate against negativity this season and infect all around us with the joy of Christmas via the 'Charity of a Smile'.

About Caywama
Caywama Edwards-Cottle, affectionately known as Wama, is a member of the Kingdom Life Ministries church in Kearton's, Barrouallie (a member church of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies), and functions as a youth leader and worship leader. She is married to Gasley Cottle, and is an English language teacher by profession.
Born into a musical family, Caywama's talent was realized at a tender age; this was solidified when she won her first gospel singing competition at just five years old. Called by God to go higher and deeper, she was prophetically released to function as a worship minister at thirteen years old.
This release into music ministry afforded her the opportunity to have shared stage with Fred Hammond, Aleithia Sweeting, Lt. Stitchie, Bridget Blucher, Kiokya Cruickshank, Voices of Victory, Eden and others. Additionally, she was awarded Best Under 19 Soloist in 2008, and was the leader of the Most Outstanding Gospel Band in 2009 at SVG's Gospel Fest. On August 27th, 2016, she became the winner of the prestigious gospel competition - Sing It Like the Stars (SILS).
Since then, Caywama has released three singles: Christ Child and Wat Yo Bringing (2016) and Charity of a Smile (2017) - all Christmas songs as she is a staunch lover of the season. She has also released two music videos: Christ Child in 2016, and more recently, Charity of a Smile in 2021. She also ministers around the country - whether face-to-face or online - as a speaker or singer.
When Caywama is not busy with church or school, you can find her reading a good book, socializing with her friends, singing along to her favorite gospel songs or listening to her favourite Gospel/inspiration speakers, baking cookies and cakes, or binge-watching cooking and HGTV shows, Hallmark movies or Asian Dramas with her sister, Carlotta Edwards.
Inspired by the lyrics of the song entitled 'Oceans', her goal is to allow the Holy Spirit to lead her where her faith is without borders. For her passion is to glorify God in all she does and minister to the masses as a conduit of God’s healing, delivering and saving power.
