About Arnie Davidson - New Lamps for Old
I call my band New Lamps for Old. From the northeast USA, not far from NYC, in a sleepier town, I write about moments. My moments and yours.
Capturing those fireflies in a bottle and then releasing them as tune and texture. More than a melody.
A mood.

Spring Greetings from New England, USA!
Working on recording some new tunes that have been incubating during the downtime of 2020. And, working with some amazing local musicians at a rustic, in the woods, log-cabin studio.
Environment can make all the difference, and this place is warm and comfortable from the moment that you set foot inside. Eric Lichter, the owner and producer, is multi-talented on nearly every instrument - drums, bass, rhythm, lead. My ego isn't big, and I just love treating my song-children to great musicianship.
I remember having a summer love when I was way younger, and putting the rest of life, home, school, everything, on hold - consumed with one small corner of life. Maybe there's a bit of this in all of us - blurring the familiar and mundane in favor of the sensory-rich. In this case - dreams.
Hope you like! Thanks for your amazing support and comments.
Love ya, Arnie

Good morning from Connecticut 3 rd day of snow. It's getting a little old.
When I was recording these tracks, I had the opportunity to work with Charlie DeChant, playing sax on Full Moon Foolin and Ester Adjuah.
Charlie is nicknamed "Mr. Casual" by his bandmates at Hall and Oates. He is famous for his sax solos in their hits - ManEater, Say it Isn't So, I Can't go for That, One on One.
Here's a clip of the Maneater solo
(expired link)
I feel humbled and honored to have Charle work his magic on my music. Have a re-listen to Ester Adjuah and Full Moon Foolin to see if you can hear some of those past hits in his groove.
Thanks for Listning!
Love ya,
Arnie

Good morning.
Well, we finally made it through 2020. The new year is a chance to kind of reinvent, I'm thinking.
I'm going back to the studio (which now allows musicians in - a novel idea) to work on another album. I'm working with an amazing bunch of musicians at a small studio, out in the woods in Connecticut, US (about 2 hours from New York City, but a world away from the city life.)
I'll keep you posted on new music.
Finally gathering togther the songs that you've been listening to on N1M into an album. New Lamps for Old.
Here's an iTunes link to the singles:

New Lamps for Old is a reference to the story of Aladdin. It's a part of the 1001 Nights or Arabian Nights collection that includes "Sinbad the Sailor" and "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves."
Anyway, Aladdin had this magic lamp with the genie in it, and while he was away, the evil magician dressed up as a street vendor calling out "New Lamps for Old."
Aladdin's wife was lured by the old man, and decided to trade the dirty magic lamp, for a new shiny (worthless) one. Which was the magicians goal.
Anyway, it seemed like a great story moment, with lots of life lessons buried in there.
My best wishes for a Wonderful 2021, filled with Love and Music.
Thanks again for your amazing support. Your messages keep me going and brighten my day!
Love ya, Arnie

Walk into the Water
I'm intrigued with stories and the values that they carry.
Over the years, I've repeatedly heard the biblical story of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea, fleeing the advancing Egyptian army.
Recently, I heard an interpretive twist on this story - that God did not part the waters until they showed perfect faith, demonstrated by one person walking into the water until their head was completely submerged. The story goes that, only then, did the waters part. I think life works like this, rewarding focus and action.
This reminds me a bit of the scene from the Last Crusade (Indiana Jones) where he takes a leap of faith and walks over the ravine, supported by a previously invisible bridge
Anyway, all of this seemed like a great setting for a song. We're all fond of making excuses instead of doing, beginning. It's time to ignore the negative relatives and test out that new idea. To summon inner courage. To do!
"The sea's about to drown us, and the enemy surrounds us, and it comes down to this moment, gotta walk into the water."
One of the toughest things to do is to begin. "grasping at hope, forcing our feet."
I hope this tune motivates you to quit stalling, and muster the inner strength to move forward. To reinvent. You can do it! Let me know your story, your obstacle, and how you can overcome it and walked into the water.
Let's get our feet wet and live life.
Love ya, Arnie
(thank you to Larry Hoppen from Orleans, and Beth Schafer for amazing guitar!!)

Halfway through the summer in Northeast US. We're near New York City, and it has been cool, hot, stormy and everything in between that new England is famous for.
I was hoping the Covid mask thing would calm down, but even though we are in a very low risk area, I think we have many months of compromise ahead of us. Small gatherings, too many Zoom calls, and a year away from concerts like they used to be.
Still, gotta make music. working on new tunes to share soon. Be safe and keep smiling. Love to ya. Arnie

New song today - Believe.
Have a listen, hope you like.
I'm getting tired of the media trying to nudge us all into their box - what to think, what to be, what to Believe.
Hoping you can look inward and know who you are, where you are going and turn off the distracting noise.
Whatever it is, be committed and unashamed of it.
Wishing you health, sweet music and love,
Arnie
